Default Letter for you to send to Your congress person to ask for veto override

Letter for you to send to Your congress person to ask for veto override

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From www.AmericansforCures.org ( please get on their e-mail list):

The Honorable (Your Congressman or Congresswoman)
(Your Congressman or Congresswoman’s address) Washington, DC 20515

(Month/Date/2007)

Dear (Your Congressman or Congresswoman),

I understand that you voted no on H3, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007. As one of your constituents, I urge you to reconsider and vote yes on the veto override. It is time for our government to respond to the supermajority of Americans who support this research.

Briefly tell your story and why you support stem cell research here. The entire letter must be one page or less If your story is long, you can take out one of the four messages below to accommodate it.

As you may know, the success of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act may depend on your vote for an override. Several of your colleagues have proposed “substitute” bills, to fund forms of alternative research. These well-meant but mistaken pieces of legislation are no substitute for the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. Substitute bills cannot be accepted as a reason to deny the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. I want to tell you that:

To my knowledge, not one of the nation’s preeminent scientists regard any form of “alternative” stem cell research as a substitute for embryonic. I can provide supporting letters if you would like.
Medical decisions should be made by me, my family and my doctor. Political leaders should not be cutting families off from access to this lifesaving research. Instead, you should be leading the effort to fund this research. It is a family’s right to decide and choose the best medical care for their loved ones.
The American people overwhelmingly support embryonic stem cell research (73% of the American public). Not only are they impressed by the science itself, but they resent the restrictions currently imposed; restrictions on federal funds to embryonic stem cell research denies every family the right to access the best medical treatment and cures for their loved ones. This support for embryonic stem cell research manifested itself in major victories by pro-stem cell research candidates in the 2006 midterm Election.
Non-embryonic stem cell research is already heavily funded. White House documents reveal a preference of nearly 20-1 for funding alternative stem cell research over embryonic.

You have quite literally the power to save lives, and ease suffering. Please be a voice for those who have been told “there is no hope”. Stem cell research is our hope.

I urge you to vote “Yes” on the veto override of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. Vote Yes for me, my family, and for the millions of Americans who suffer daily from chronic illness and injury.

Please know that you can call on me, my family, and the nearly 600 patient advocacy and health organizations, research universities, religious groups and other interested organizations that support this research.

Sincerely,

Your name
Your street
Your city, state and zip
