WALTHAM, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/21/07 -- It is no April Fool. Software development firm Syrinx Consulting will be hosting the First Software Industry Poker Tournament to benefit the nonprofit ALS Foundation for Life, on April 1st, 2007. The ALS Foundation for Life is a Franklin, Mass.-based organization that provides financial support and assistance for families coping with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The event is open to the public.

When: Sunday, April 1st, 2007, 1:00-6:00pm
Where: Hilton Garden Inn
420 Totten Pond Road
Waltham, Mass. 02451

Donation: $100, register online at http://www.syrinx.com/poker
The tournament will feature No Limit Texas Hold 'Em, played at 20 tables that seat 10 players each. Proceeds, which will come from registration fees, raffles, and other donations by patrons, will go entirely to ALS Foundation for Life. Prizes for the tournament will be based on the number of entrants, with a maximum of 200 entrants.

"Between medical costs, home modifications, and assistive technology, the average ALS patient will need to spend in excess of $200,000. That's why ALS Foundation for Life was formed to increase public awareness, to provide financial aid for medical expenses and home modifications, and to help families locate and acquire these products and services," said Sheila Carlson, President, ALS Foundation for Life.

"We are personally very familiar with the wonderful work of ALS Foundation for Life in our local community and delighted to support them with this charity poker tournament. We welcome the public to join us in a very worthy cause," said Andrew Gelina, CEO, Syrinx Consulting.

About ALS

Commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease or ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a fatal neurological disorder that affects thousands of Americans each year, causing paralysis through the progressive death of motor neurons. Thirty thousand Americans have ALS, and 250,000 Americans alive today will eventually die from the disease. Although ALS mainly affects patients over 50, it can strike at any age. There currently is no known cure.

About ALS Foundation for Life

The ALS Foundation for Life was founded by Frank Carlson, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2001 at the age of 27. The Foundation's goal is to raise awareness of the disease and to help improve the quality of life for the men and women in the region who are struggling with ALS on a daily basis. While Carlson lost his battle with ALS in 2004, his memory and mission remain alive through the Foundation. Recently the ALS Foundation for Life partnered with the ALS Association, Massachusetts Chapter, to provide assistance to patients on a local level.
