I thought that this paper was interesting.
It shows that neurons from people with AD use genetic recombination to produce many different forms of the gene which which codes for the protein (APP) which is converted to Abeta in AD If confirmed it suggests new treatment options and may also be relevant to other disorders like Parkinson's Disease. ‘Landmark study’ shows brain cells revamp their DNA, perhaps sparking Alzheimer’s disease | Science | AAAS

G'day Kiwi,
You may have seen this but I came across it today. New blood test may accurately detect Alzheimer’s disease - Medical News Today March 15, 2022 I think this is the abstract Validation of Plasma Amyloid-β 42/40 for Detecting Alzheimer Disease Amyloid Plaques | Neurology Last edited by Lara; 03-16-2022 at 11:37 PM. |

Thanks Lara.
Interesting, I had not seen it before. I think that not much poor quality work gets accepted in Neurology.

Now I am looking into this! “[W]e tracked how amyloid-beta is removed from the [central nervous system (CNS)], showing ~50% is removed across the blood-brain barrier to the blood,” he added. This then led to the discovery that looking at the ratio of amyloid-beta 42 and amyloid-beta 40 could identify whether or not somebody was forming amyloid plaques on their brain. thank you! |
