I usually take all these press releases and studies with a grain of salt.
Most of it is simply hype. It does nothing but bring false hope and
heartache.

This information I felt was different in that I know of several people in
person who swear it is helping a little bit with their loved ones. A little
bit isn't much, but it is certainly better than nothing! I admit I ordered
a case

I agree Nik-key! We should all take these matters with a grain of salt. Based on your post, I have a feeling that you really don't know much about the health benefits of coconut oil, let alone it's wonderful effect on Alzheimer's.

One explanation is because coconut oil's unique fatty acid content (medium chain fatty acids - MCFA) can feed your cells, including brain cells of course, even without the aid of insulin. Obviously, cells properly fed won't starve to death, enabling Alzheimer's disease sufferers, for one, to live normal lives.

There's so much more coconut oil can do.

Cheers,
CoconutOilGuy

I am trying to find a nice way to reply to this... honestly I am. I am losing my husband to Alzheimer's. So please understand my reply is coming from a heart filled with pain and saddness. There is NOTHING that "can enable an Alzheimer's sufferer to live a normal life" Nothing.

Alzheimer's is not just a memory issue. It is a disease of total brain destruction. I would and have tried anything and everything with any promise of slowing down this horrid disease. Even at max dose of coconut oil, he is now down to 95 pounds .......sigh

the biggest problem i have with the coconut oil is that in the jar, it looks, smells and feels like candle wax and it doesnt taste much better.
i was putting it in hot coco over the winter. but now i spread it on toast with stevia. still takes a little doing, but it does go down pretty easy

Dear Nikki, the previous poster that you replied to here was "banned spammer". Please don't take anything said to heart.

Dear Flutemaker and Nikki,
There have been a few conversations about coconut oil on these forums. One was in Social Chat and another in Parkinson's Disease Forum. There was some good information. If you run a search across all forums you might find more of those old threads. The one in Social Chat I think was started by Melody. I vaguely recall recipes were in some of the posts too.

actually I shall go find them and post them here. BBL

OK, here's a few. There are more out there though...

yuppers, ive read in on a few of those.i seem to remember posting a time or two in the muffin thread.
i use the coconut oil to help keep candida over growth in check. from what i understand about candida in an overgrowth state,it can interfere with the bodys ability to absorb nutrients from food and likewise, medication.

I love the last line in the article.
