Confused post surgery oddities

My uncle suffered from a ruptured aneurysm three nights ago. He was feeling unwell and his was rushed to the hospital. He had multiple seizures and was put into sedation and had his head scanned. Immediately he had to be airlifted to another hospital. The doctor told us it seems he's had this aneurysm for a few years now. He was not given good odds of even surviving the surgery. We were also told this was class five which is the worst level he could be at. He pulled through the surgery and is on and off of sedation. The problems the staff are seeing is that he is very slow to recover any movement of his body. At the same time though when they take him off sedation he is awake alert and looking around. He can move his head and they saw him lift his leg slightly. only one time though. Don't know what to think about any of this. Or who to talk to.

Hi

I am sorry that you and your family are going though this - it is a very scary and uncertain time for everyone.

Bear in mind that this is a massive insult for his brain, and it sounds like he is doing well despite the odds. None of us are doctors, but I do know that the brain takes a long time to heal and each person's response is different. To me, it sounds encouraging that he is awake and alert and has recovered some movement when he is not sedated.

This will probably be a long road for him, and it may seem like two steps forward and three steps back for quite a while, so don't get discouraged if it takes longer than expected.

Good luck and I hope your uncle continues to improve steadily and has a successful recovery.

Please pop in here from time to time and let us know how he is going - or just come here to ask questions, vent, scream cry or celebrate.

Thinking of you and your family

Lyn
