Default I suspect my husband has brain aneurism

I have been doing a lot of internet research recently to try and narrow down the symptoms my husband has been having over the last few years and have arrived to this forum and brain aneurism.

Every now and then he goes through a phase of very worrying behaviour which we came to call "spells". Rather suddenly he would start acting as if he is drunk - his coordination would all but disappear and he would start walking into furniture, dropping things and have difficulty in walking straight and managing stairs. At the same time his speech would be slurred and he becomes incoherent and cannot maintain a conversation anymore. His eyes would look all glazed over and red. He forgets things almost instantly and is unable to follow simple instructions. When this happens, the only solution we found so far is to go to bed and sleep it off. Even if the symptoms developed in mid-afternoon (3-5pm), he would then sleep all way till the next morning and then would have no recollection of what happened the night before, except feeling very tired very suddenly. Once under the "spell" he is also unable to make rational decisons and does not realise something is wrong. I have to asses the situation and send him to bed myself.

Over the last 6 years or or so the frequency has increased form no more than once every 3-4 months to as much as 2-3 times a week some weeks but on average every 2 weeks.

We tried to seek medical advice 5 years ago, has EEG, MRI, full blood tests, urine, etc. They all came back normal. More recently in 2011 he had a full medical with blood tests, blood pressure, etc. High cholesterol was the only thing that was found then.

Since then he is very reluctant to seek further help and does not believe the doctors will do anything meaningful. In the meantime our family life suffers as many evening he ends up being sent to bed by me early and does not get to have that time with me and the kids.

Has anyone else experienced those kind of symptoms and then had a confirmed aneurism? Is it common to have symptoms so intermittently? What can be done to avoid any surgical intervention? Just plenty of rest?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Any thoughts anyone? All the symptoms I listed are consistent with unruptured brain aneurism, as described in Wiki and various health related sites.

I just joined today, so other people know much more than I do. I was just diagnosed with a basilar aneurysm. This was diagnosed after I had an MRA for another symptom. I do know that MRIs will not diagnose unless you have the MRA with it (MRA's image the blood vessels/arteries).

What you are describing sounds like a seizure. Has your husband had an EEG? My daughter has epilepsy that took several years to diagnose (and 3 neurologists). We finally went to the head of neuroendocrinology at Beth Israel, who finally diagnosed it through an EEG.

I would urge your husband to see a neurologist again for new tests.

He had EEG when we had the first round of investigations 6 years ago or so but not since. At that time epilepsy was ruled out, but thatnks for the idea, I will research thoroughly all the info and symptoms.

Hi I was reading your post when I instantly thought of my brother, he has a condition (sorry can't remember the name, but it start with an E) that is his liver doesn't filter his toxins properly, therefore effecting his brain function, he goes through stages of where you can almost call it dimentia like, i would speak to your husbands doctor about it and possibly get tests ran for that, as aneurysms don't tend to show symptoms unless they have rupturesv/ bled.
I myself had an aneurysm clipped back in April 2011 and never knew I had it until i had a head trauma accident and had to have an MRI.
But back onto your husband, I really feel that you should speak to the doctor about the toxins not being filtered properly, my brother can go from normal one day to thinking he is drinking something and there isnt even a glass in his hand, to sleeping all day, can't hold conversations, just some real weird stuff at times, but when his medication is working and his toxins filter correctly he is like the brother we all know and love,
Good luck and please keep us up to date
Take Care
Nelly
