Default Difficulty talking on phone

I had brain surgery for three aneurysms in 2005 at Johns Hopkins. I am very lucky and alive. My father died of one ruptured brain aneurysm suddenly and we buried him on New Years Eve Day of the millennium so I do realize I am lucky. Had he not died my Dr. would not have looked for an aneurysm in my brain at all.
My question is this: Since the surgery I stutter, not much any more but more so when I meet new people. I have short term memory loss and I also have GREAT difficulty making myself talk on the telephone; I get very confused when I do.
Is this normal?

Thank you so much!

Mary

It sounds to me more like an anxiety thing. You would probably do really well with some Speech Therapy. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about that. I never had this problem, but I think Speech Therapy would help you and I think too that you have a lot of anxiety, which is totally understandable.

This is from a friend in Mn:

This sounds like me!! I do the same thing when I meet people that I have not seen in a long time,or on the phone, and when I'm stressed or tired...all these years and I still deal with that stuff. So normal? I guess for some of us...location location it depends where the Annie's were,if you had a stroke...same as me this Mary.

This one is from a friend in Northern Pa., she was a charge nurse:

This word searching and stuttering is a common thing among us I did and still do it but has improved some, but is embarassing if the person dosen't know me or what i went through, and i don't always feel like explaining what happened. thats why i felt so comfortable online you can type instead than speak. Mimi and i have had conversations over the phone where we were both word searching
Have a great trip Mimi and stay off the roof of the truck, please!!! I leave for NYC on thursday for Omar's wedding, going on AM track, no planes for this girl.

This one is from a survivor in florida. it seems others have experienced what you're going through Mary:

I search for words alot - I'm better at writing than talking anymore - if I'm in a hurry, I'm worse.
