Hello Nancy,
Recovery really is a journey, and I am so glad you are on this side of it. I am 5+ months post op from my clipping and have really come to see that this is a journey i am on. Also it changes as well. I slept more normal at first, and was so elated to be alive. I was still running on fear, and adrenaline. Months 2-4 I did nothing but sleep. I am back for some reason to normal sleeping behavior again and that is good. Many complain of not being able to sleep, or they will fall asleep, and wham wake up , and stay awake. Maybe talk with your doctor if it continues to be bothersome to you. I know i really needed rest. Sleeping is when brain is healing. You have been through so much, so please continue to be good to you. I am also blessed with a supportive family, and hubby has bee a true blessing. Feel free to pm me anytime. I have seen so many movies, and seen them many times, I also try and get out once a day, even if just to store, that is priceless, or a short walk. Take care.... |

Hi Nancy,
You are so early in your recovery so give yourself a big hug, you are doing great!! Sleep patterns get disturbed with brain surgery, it happens alot, not to be negative but I am 4 years post surgery and I rarely sleep through the night unless I take a sleeping pill. Do you have an i pod or MP3 player? They are great little inventions. I listen to music or books at night on an ipod to fall asleep and it works great. That way the light is off and my eyes don't get over tired. If you have an MP3 player you can download books from the library, you mentioned you read alot so thought this would help. Hang in there Nancy, this is a slow, tricky recovery and it takes time, Ruthie |

I will try some movies, I have been given plenty to watch, I think its mostly that it is so cold here and I don't go outside much. With the coiling last July I didn't sleep for 30 hours afterwards then slept alot, but this clipping, I have not slept as much as I wanted or felt I should

Hi Nancy - How are you doing today? Woke thinking about you today and just wanted to check in with you. It has been quite cold in parts of the US, hopefully it will warm a tad. Wishing you well.

Hi Nancy. I am new to the site but I had to register when I saw your post. I had a right carotid arterial aneurysm at the base of my brain clipped over 3 years ago. In fact it will be 4 years this coming April. I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went home on Saturday with strict instructions from my surgeon to do absolutely nothing until I saw him in one week. I don't think he wanted to send me home that soon. I did everything my surgeon told me to do but I still ended up with a sub-dural hematoma. About four days later, I ended up back in the hospital for about 8 days or so. I think that if the insurance company (probably) hadn't forced my surgeon to release me so soon I might not have ended up back in the hospital. Who really knows. I had some right eye vision changes but nothing significant. Some of my memories seem to be gone but my surgeon thinks that is a result of the sub-dural hematoma more than the surgery. They made my scar just under the edge of my hairline. They did an awesome job in hiding it. My main instructions upon leaving the hospital was rest, rest, rest. My doctors didn't want me to do anything. I wasn't allowed to drive right away though. I think I had to wait just a couple of weeks or so. Long enough for the healing of the skull and stuff to begin. I do know that I was tired for awhile after the sugery. Oh yeah, and my jaw was really sore for several days and achy for several more days after that. Other than that, it really wasn't so bad. I will say a prayer for you. When I went into the hospital for my surgery everyone asked me if I was scared. I really wasn't. I had the attitude that if I died during surgery I won, because I got to go to heaven and see my mom and grandma and all those loved ones that have gone before me. If I lived (and somehow I knew everything was going to be okay) I still won because I got to stay here with my wonderful husband and sons. God Bless you. You will do great.
