Default Aneurysm and athletics

Hey all!

I just got diagnosed with a wee 2 mm aneurysm. I'll be seeing the neurosurgery dept next week to find out what they want to do, but so far the doctors have been very liberal in letting me run and participate in karate. Still, I wonder - will having an aneurysm mess up my chances of running a marathon or getting back into full contact in karate? Right now I'm training with no hits to the head, but I'm wondering with treatment if I'll be able to train in full after or if it's all over for that sort of thing.

Any ideas on how things like running, weight training and karate affect an aneurysm?

Thanks in advance!

Janet

Dear Janet: I have had two annies repaired (one was 12mm one 5mm), and still have a 2mm the doctors just gave me the green light to do whatever I want, they will only watch the other one by checking once a year. I asked if I could do anything that normal people do, they said yes. I think it depends on how the doctors see your annie, is it just a small one that may have been there for years, Alot of people are born with them and never know they even had one unless they get an mri or ct that shows it. By all means check with the doctors, you might want to get a second opinion from another doctor too. Boy it feels great to know that now, after 10 months off walking lightly, to be told I am now normal and can do anything Best of luck to you. Nancy

Exclamation 4.3 size aneurysm

I was just recently diagnosed with a 4.3 size aneurysm and I have been running off and on for over a year. After a couple of months off. I started doing the c25k program again. Also with my occupation I am also very active. I am constantly on the go for 8 hours straight. I recently developed uncomfortable check pain and or other word Stress. I was admitted to the hopsital and they did several tests. One being a ekg where they found the 4.3 size aneurysm. Now I am paraniod to try to do anything that is very physical. I am going to try the treadmill and see how running is after being off of it for almost 2 weeks since I was diagnosed with this. Sometimes I wish it was the aneurysm was large enough so they can do something about it now instead of having to wait and see if it is growing then remove it when it is
