Hello everybody!
Can you give me an idea of costs of various treatments for ruptured or unruptured aneurysms in different kind of hospitals (e.g. university, private etc) with or without the presence of famous doctors? As far as I know the total cost of around $300.000 may be very common. However, it might depend on whether the therapy has taken place in a private hospital, with or without ICU for long time etc. Would you please define the allocation of that cost in some general categories: hospital,ICU,surgeons,material? Thank you very much George (unruptured left giant fusiform aneurysm-GREECE) |

Kali mera, George.
O'm afraid I can't help you; I'm fortunate enough to live in the UK so I don't have to worry about costs.Will the Greek equivalent of our National Health Service not cover it? |

Do you know greek? ![]() Well, if I had been in a greek hospital of our NHS, then my public insurance would have covered anything. However, due to the complexity of my aneurysm, it was better to be in a private specialized hospital, but then the public insurance would have covered a small portion of the cost. This is not the problem as I have a private insurance as well, so I can choose to be treated anywhere. The reason I chose Swiss is that there is a hospital with high specialization in endovascular treatment and I had chosen to check this aternative first. For my first hospitalization which had MRI+CTA+Angiography, private bed, Prof.Doc in a university public hospital, the total cost was around 25.500 euros, half of them covered by my public insurance (the rest hopefully by my private one). However, the magnitude of the costs in USA are quite different. And since there are many top places for rare and difficult cases, I would like somebody to give me a rough idea. Take care George |

[QUOTE=geolek;472393]Hello Beth!
Do you know greek? ![]() Very little I'm afraid, George, despite holidaying there almost every year for the past 25 years ![]() Well, if I had been in a greek hospital of our NHS, then my public insurance would have covered anything. Ah right! Sorry, I've realised that my question may have seemed rude; that wasn't my intention ![]() For my first hospitalization which had MRI+CTA+Angiography, private bed, Prof.Doc in a university public hospital, the total cost was around 25.500 euros, half of them covered by my public insurance (the rest hopefully by my private one). I hope so ![]() However, the magnitude of the costs in USA are quite different. And since there are many top places for rare and difficult cases, I would like somebody to give me a rough idea. The figures I've seen quoted in response to this query elsewhere are horrendous, aren't they? Look after yourself, |

I think most of my bills are in now and they totaled about $120,000.00 (before insurance). This includes the diagnostic MRI w & w/o contrast, CT Scan w & w/o contrast, angiogram, surgery, hospital (24 hour ICU + 6 days in a private room), meds, 2 ambulance transports and a helicopter ride (which itself was $24,000!) I have heard from others who have been to Duke that they are willing to set up very reasonable payment plans (keeping my fingers crossed ![]() I hope this helps. Susie |
