Default I just Cannot Hold a Job-- always getting fired

I have a horrible work history that has worsened my depression and likely I am in a traumatic state from getting fired so many times. Lately it has been from Temp/Contract positions. I cannot even last 2 days without getting a call from the temporary agency telling me not to report back to work and getting some vague reason such that they didn't feel I was picking up the work fast enough after 1 day or yesterday I had a temp job for 1 day told at 6:00pm not to return because they don't think I would be able to handle more complicated work.

I think I have Learning Disability & ADHD which causes anxiety and I come across to others as incompetent because I guess I ask too many questions didn't think on the 1st or 2nd day it would be seen so negatively.

Default getting fired

I can totally sympathize with you. I seem to miss details and it has eroded my self-confidence to the point of major depression with self-injury with many hospitalizations. I can't stand it anymore. I got evaluated for ADHD and am starting medication. It took me this long to figure this out? I am very intelligent - but I'm in my fifties!!!

Keeping trying! I know its been months since you wrote this, but I am hoping that you found at least a seasonal job.

I AM competent and have an MSN in nursing. I have had some horrible bosses! I suffer with anxiety and frustrations, and found I was the one dumped on quite a few times. The object is to smile and say "thank you" I even had one boss write on my review that I was opinionated and full of myself! Really??! I did HER job, and my job and frequently found her coming to work in an unfit state, and mostly she chatted on the phone with her sister or neighbor while the rest of us held the department together, and I am the opinionated one? maybe I had good reason to be opinionated! I have watched others come in drunk, hung over, reeking of BO, clearly lied about their education, and were dangerous when it came to being with patients, and found more than my fair share of folks "hooking up" at work, and even found a nurse pretending to give medicine to a patient, and would slip around the corner, pull the pill out of her pocket and swallow it for herself. When I reported her I was told that I was overstepping my bounds, and should keep to MY job, and not be so worried about what others are doing. UGH!

I just wanted you to know its NOT you! There are some real losers out there, that have been given power they have NO idea what to do with. They probably knew someone higher up the ladder, got their job and now everyone assumes that because they sit in the bigger chair, they deserve to be there. Please, find something you love, something you are passionate about, and then go knock on every door, everyday till someone lets you in. Till you get your dream job, sweep floors, flip burgers, ring out customers on a cash register, sell socks if you have to, but use that small job as a building step to get to the next level, and then the next and then the next.

I hope you are working and happy.

Alright nick, the right thing for you to do is having ago at being honest with yourself, its very easy to put a negative medical function an reason in front of what's been happening, when in fact it could well be far more simple than you realise, a good start would be to speak to who you regard as close enough to you, and have an honest upfront talk with them, going through what in your mind has taken place, and comparing that with how they experience you, that's the start if you really do want to sort things out, take it or leave it.

I think there comes a point in time when we have to accept the hand life has dealt us and figure out the best way to play it. Some things you may see as your weaknesses or the cause of problems in your life may be life's way of teaching you something about yourself.

Facing up to problems and learning how to overcome them makes us all tremendously stronger. Adopting a positive attitude goes a long way. Being grateful for what we DO have, instead of focusing on what we THINK is missing is powerful.

Maybe you keep getting fired from jobs because you're traveling down the wrong path or choosing things that aren't right for you? Maybe it's the "universe's" (or God's) way of telling you to do something different with your life? The most important thing you can do is never give up. Keep trying and things will work out for you.
