Default Medication Question?....

I'm a newbie to the forum, and have recently weaned off of Sertraline, and started taking Vyvanse 20MG to try to help with some minor problems I have had for a while.
My question is related to headaches I have been getting daily. In you guys experience, would you believe that weaning off of Sertraline, or starting Vyvanse would be the more likely cause of these headaches?
My greatest concern is that I am a Heart Valve replacement patient last year, and I am real concerned about taking a stimulant (vyvanse) with an artificial heart valve.

Any words of wisdom out there?

Default Hello just gotta be me

Welcome to Neuro Talk. Medicine is a funny thing. What one experiences is not always the case with someone else going on or getting off a new medication. I would keep track of your headaches, duration etc. If in a week or so these do not subside, then I would indeed contact your doctor. Some medications can cause headaches as well as getting on a new one. With your heart issue. You are right to bring up the issue to maybe your heart specialist to make sure using a stimulant isn't damaging. Google up on internet, see what you can find out about the side effects of both drugs. If at any time you really are uncomfortable with the side effects, regardless of what its cause, call your doctor. I wish you all the best. ginnie

Hi JustGottabeme,
Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

You really need to ask your prescribing doctor about this concern.

I just looked in Medline regarding potential side-effects from the Vyvanse and headaches are listed in there.
There is also a section in the "Special precautions" part regarding the heart.

Side effects
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/d...l#side-effects

Special precautions
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/d...ml#precautions

Were you on a high dose of the Sertraline before you weaned off and did you wean totally off before starting the Vyvanse.
The info. regarding Vyvanse says it should be started at a really low dose and gradually increased.

How should this medicine be used
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/d...07047.html#how

Many years ago I took quite a high dose of Sertraline/Zoloft for some OC issues and Anxiety.
I hated the way it made me feel and it didn't actually help me personally so I went off it.
I didn't wean fast enough and I became quite ill in fact.

I don't know anything about the Vyvanse I'm sorry except for what I have just read but I'm sure others who read here may.

I vaguely recall someone in the ADHD forum was talking about Vyvanse recently.
Perhaps asking there might be helpful as well.

I do know that for me, getting OFF the Sertraline was difficult and made me sick.

Let us know how you get on.
