Hello everyone,
I hope this forum is a bit softer than crazyboard, and hopefully I will get some answers to my problems - generalized anxiety disorder, avoidant personality, severe social interaction problems. I have multiple issues regarding my general health, although this post will be about how to cope with cognition deficits while on lorazepam and alprazolam. I have more than 2 years on these pills, my pet get's them in any quantity whenever it wants. I have tried a lot of antidepressant medication, you name it and I'll tell you if I didn't. Even antipsychotics, tryciclics, MAOIs, nootropics (piracetam, pramiracetam - won't work anymore) I can't give up benzos, they changed my live, I have finished college, I'm on master's degree now, but I am taking them in huge quantities and my memory and cognition aren't as they were and interfere very much with my mood and intellectual activities. Though, I am relaxed and I can walk on streets and talk to people, it's the best thing happened for me for a long time - i hope you can understand. My resident doctor friend taught me how inject myself Cerebrolisyne, though it's expensive, it gives up good results over the past months - with breaks. My pdoc told me last year that I should do Cerebrolisyne for a whole year with breaks (what does she meant?) So, in the final I must shock you, I'm taking minimum 6 mg of lorazepam and 2 mg of alprazolam a day, divided over the day. Should I continue with cerebrolisyne? How much, 2.5 - 5mL/day over 20 continuous days and 10 days brake? Thank you very much! PS: Please don't judge me. If you are willing to help please post, if you are prone to criticism, please don't. Thank you! |

Hi Xeon
Welcome to NeuroTalk ![]() My understanding is that Cerebrolysin may offer small improvements to the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. I believe that it is not approved in the USA. This general information might help you; http://www.alzdiscovery.org/cognitiv...t/cerebrolysin . As far as I can see the evidence for the efficacy of Cerebrolysin is not conclusive. This is discussed here; http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/778765 (note that you might have to register (which is free) with Medscape to see the whole article). All the best.

Thank you for your answers, I look further for more.
It seems this forum is not judgmental at all as the forum reminded in my original post. I haven't told you that I live in Eastern Europe, so regulations here aren't the same as in the US or other non-European countries. Thank you again for being kind, I will check your sister forum as well. All the best for all of you! ![]() |

Xeon, I have been thinking about Cerebrolysin.
I don't know if it will help you. But (among other things I am an immunologist in my day job) your immune system will recognise the pig proteins in Cerebrolysin as being foreign and make an immune response against them. This immune response may or may not lead to adverse side-effects. It is very likely that the immune response will include production of antibodies specific for pig NGF and BDNF. These antibodies will bind to those two pig proteins - probably that will stop them from crossing the blood-brain barrier. These are issues which it might be worth discussing with your clinical care team.

This is not a judgement but I would work to get off the benzos and work with alternatives as there is a lot of info out there on it's link to alzheimers. I took 1/2mg lorazepam for some years but when I heard this info, I got off and work with other calmers. Take care. C
