CBT therapy is quite good, so is EMDR if you've experienced a traumatic event / have PTSD

Gethprime, I agree with what the others have written about CBT.
I learned it from my clinical psychologist - it has made a big difference to my staying in remission from Major Depressive Disorder and alcohol abuse. You might like to check out CBT for Beginners by Simmons and Griffiths (2009). It is intended for trainee mental health professionals but explains the concepts and applications of CBT very clearly.
