Hi Dotty, I hope that you are still around. I have overcome anxiety. I think that people are anxious because they don't feel secure. Pretty simple. I would assume that something is making your son not feel secure? I grew up not feeling secure for various reasons. One thing that helps children feel secure is having a parent who is in charge. I am not talking about an overbearing parent. I am talking about a parent who isn't afraid of taking charge. When a parent is in control, a child feels so secure. Many parents don't take charge because they don't want the child to dislike them or they had an overbearing parent and never want to be like that, to name a few reasons. If a parent doesn't take charge this is very scary for a child because they feel that they are in charge then - scary! There is a balance. I listen to my children but I don't negotiate. This would give them too much power.

Hi Clouds, anxiety can cause depression. If you get so overwhelmed with it all it can make you depressed. Have you ever had treatment for your OCD?

Hi Clouds
we have a sticky thread here on possible treatments for OCD http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1395.html My son's intense OCD has been really helped by supplements that boost serotonin and he also did a course of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that gave him grounding in excellent coping skills for his OCD. some people have found meds beneficial,(SSRI's are usually rx) but my son found their side effects not worth it. He has also found that a lot of artificial foods trigger his OCD (likely related to the chemicals in them) and having a more natural diet has really helped him. He has OCD flareups if he has MSG or food dyes or aspartame/nutrasweet, sucralose/splenda etc. if you take a look at the sticky thread you may find a lot of helpful info on OCD treatments.

I recovered from anxiety and OCD is just a step beyond that. I recovered with therapy. I cannot believe where I was and where I am now. This stuff can be understood and worked through. It is basically self-understanding, problem solving and social skills.....
Chemar, do you think that your son might have food allergies? I have been getting treated for my food allergies and after I got my first LDA shot for them everyone was commenting on how calm I was. I really felt it too. |
