Thumbs up Support Stem Cell Research

Rep. Rush Holt and Senator Bob Menendez would like you to join them, along with state and local officials, researchers, statewide stem cell advocates, and business leaders to show your support for federally funded stem cell research at a press event this Tuesday, January 16 at 10:30am in North Brunswick. Below are the event details.

As you are aware from Rep. Holt’s email message this past Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007 (H.R. 3). H.R. 3 would increase the number of embryonic stem cell lines that can be used to conduct research with federal monies to search for cures for a number of diseases such as diabetes, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, ALS, multiple sclerosis, and cancer. This important legislation now goes to the Senate for its consideration. I expect that H.R. 3 will pass the Senate by an even larger margin than it did in the 109th Congress. This legislation is identical to legislation (H.R 810) that was approved by the last Congress only to be vetoed by President Bush.

Rep. Rush Holt and Senator Bob Menendez believe strongly in the need for the federal government to support this groundbreaking research. At this event, you will join them in urging President Bush to resist vetoing H.R. 3.

If you are able to attend or have any questions, please contact me in the office or on my cell after business hours at 732-233-0342.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!
