This has been a devastating earthquake. Early reports say there are dozens dead and hundreds injured.

Although "only" a 6.3 on the Richtoscale, the centre was only 5 KMs under the ground surface, which I'm sure people in an earthquake belt will now... is fairly close to the earth's surface.

I know you'll join with me as I send up prayers for the injured and for the families of the dead.

I just saw images of the devastation on the early news and it looked terrible. They said that the hospitals are dealing with not only the injured but an influx of women in premature labor. These people are most definitely in my prayers.

Shocked

This is just awful. My thoughts are with all there, and with their relatives who might be affected by this tragedy.

That is such a beautiful city!

I hadn't heard it was such a shallow quake...that is NOT good...and I heard the water table is shallow as well...which causes more problems.

Prayers for all suffering, and also their loved ones near and far...

Wow. I couldn't believe my eyes when I watched videos on the news last night. Devastating...

Holy Moley, did you see the guy stuck on the cliff with those giant boulders around him. On top of that I think he was in a gas truck. Everybody seemed so calm, I guess they had to be in shock. Well, I hope they get the help they need from around the world. My prayers are with them all. I just went back it was a gas truck BP of all companies. Well I'm glad the guy is o.k.

At the moment, there are around 100 confirmed dead, and over 300 still missing.

Yesterday they redirected all the rescue teams away from the worst hit building, the CTV building, even though there are still around 100 people trapped in that building, under the rubble. The Chief of Police said no-one could still be alive under all of that, but this morning I heard on TV that a voice could be heard. I have been waiting for hours to hear if the search dogs found anyone alive in there ...

They predict around 300 people are still trapped in the rubble, and I do believe that some are still alive.

Please continue to pray for them.... they need all the prayers we can raise.

I heard that text messages are being sent out from the rubble but the rescuers can't reach them...such a nightmare.
Prayers definitely going out to all in NZ...
