I can't afford all of my medical supplies. And Medicaid won't pay for as much, as, I need. What can/ do I do???

I've recently had to face the fact that most of my income goes towards my rent - something I've seriously had to rethink. Although I don't live with my mother, I do have a landlord and he is in control of what I pay.

After much thought (a few months, actually), I have done many things to cut back my spending which included telling my landlord I was in a tough situation and could he please consider reducing my rent. I am very thankful that he is now speaking with his bank to re-mortgage and reduce his costs so that he can, in turn, reduce my cost. I know I am very lucky ... but he, also, is lucky to have me as his tenant as I love this little condo, as do my cats.

Sorry, I kinda went on and on....

I realize your Mom may not be in a financial position to be able to help you out by reducing your rent... but surely, if she is, she can find it in her heart to work out a solution for both of you.

I know it isn't easy.

Hi Ponygirl,

As a mother I understand having a child pay rent. My daughter doesn't make much money but wants to move out on her own. In an attempt to give her an idea about what living on her own would mean we charge her $400.00 a month. She is also responsible for her cell phone bill, clothes, gas and general care (food, litter, vet, toys) for her 3 cats.

She is finding it's not easy and that is what we wanted her to understand. Her rent is lower than what she would pay if she got a place of her own. In our daughter's case we only require she put her rent ($400.00) in her savings account each month. Her savings account is still a minor account so she is unable to withdraw from the account without my signature until she is 21 (in about a year and 2 months).

My point is: It doesn't matter where you live you will have to pay rent and like many people already experience, it can be difficult and frustrating to make ends meet.

Have you tried speaking to your mom? Maybe you and she can agree to a modified rent or some other options.

I'd be paying more, if, I were on my owm! Thing is, my rent would also,
change, if, I were on my own. On my own, I'd be paying, only, 30%
of what my check, every, month. And, the amount of my check would
change, also.

Times are tough, for sure. Before you do anything however, I suggest you check all possibilities. Perhaps one way to approach your mom would be to ask if she could, for instance, allow you to pay 10 dollars less to cover the expense of one medication. Something like that.

sounds to me like you don't have a recpt or letter from your mother saying "I charge (your name) $XXX.00 per month for shelter/rent". With a signed letter stating how much you pay from your landlord (in this case your mother becomes an offical landlord) it may alter the amount of financial assistance you get from Medicaid. Just a tip.

They've always had a signed letter from my mother.
*However*, I also get $200.00 in, food stamps, monthly, because,
I have Medicaid. Not sure, whether, that would make a difference??

I am so sorry, ponygirl. I was not aware of that. Indeed depression has to be treated by a physician or a psychiatrist.
