Default Organizing; ideas welcome

Well, no I'm not the Queen of Organizers but now and then I do come up with an idea that works.

I take a three ring binder (big one in my case, but you could use a bunch of smaller ones)

I get those plastic sleeves which have three holes in them and then I place my warranties, sales slip and user manual together in a sleeve.

I put them in alphabetic order, but you don't have to.

I keep the binder in a cupboard that is easily accessible. Then when something goes wrong, breaks down or what ever...there is the info on that item.

Even my DH patted my back on this one

here's another one .. I'm doing it RIGHT now .. I had this 15-drawer plastic organizers (now available at family dollar stores) ... or back in the men's section or craft section ...

*****

I'm tired of always looking for a tack, a darning needle .. and then there are bits of this or that .. staples, screws (used) ... and glue sticks ...

THEN - use labels with a SHARPIE .. make it colorful and fun ...

I've done this - I know I have 'eye' screws ... or cup hooks (to hang my quilts from the ceiling .. but can't find .. UNTIL I BUY A PACK (isn't that the way it goes??)

I even filled a drawer with toothpicks - because I use them to mix paint, etc ... and now I have it all available in SITE ... I need to SEE things .. weird, huh?

Thanks Vonn, that's a good idea.

I used a horizontal plastic organizer box to put my jewelry in. I keep mostly my inexpensive stuff in there. I think I got the box at a craft store or dollar store too.

The box is clear so you can just look in it to see if what you want is in there.

It also fits in my small dresser drawer.

More tips.

Go to the dollar store and get an inexpensive 4X6 photo album and you can use it for the Postcards you are receiving. It's easy to flip through it and enjoy the cards. If you just put one in each slot you can read both sides and even put the address (if not on the card) in the same slot.

I also bought a ring that opens so you can slip things on it.

I use my hole punch to punch a hole in my plant description tags that come with most plants you buy. Then I slip the tag on the rings. I have one for bushes, two for flowers (annual/perrenials) trees, etc.

This way you can research what it was if you lose it to disease or whatever or if you like it so much you want more but can't remember the name.

I also did this with my mother's cards. When she was in a nursing home she received many pretty cards and I hole punched them and slipped them unto a ring. Then she could sort through them at will.

It's a good way to keep your favorite cards (too pretty to throw away).

I wanted to add .. .all those 'blank' address labels that we can make on the computer - I used to make the drawer identifiers! (the labels for 'return' addresses) ...
well, I've been cleaning the area where a w/d could fit ... and found more stuff for the thrift store .. and projects to paint!
dinner is over - back to cleaning for awhile ..

I've spent $$ (from the dollar and biglot stores) ... for the CLEAR plastic totes .. I have a couple 35 gallon .. which become too heavy ... so, I'm trying to get everything into the 'underbed' totes .. and they slide and stack easily.

the shoebox totes are fun for small projects ... and storing ...

and then I use labels to stick to the end for quick and easy recall...

just found a tote of naked barbie dolls and bed dolls ... now - guess I better get back into making dresses to dress them up!

What are you doing with a bunch of naked Barbie dolls??? Get them some clothes fast!

Labels are my next step in my organization; I have lots of things in containers but no labels which means I'm always opening the wrong container So time for me to get that done; I use those labels also.
