Hi,

I am a single parent of a 3 yr old, I've already raised 2 children (21 and 22) and now I have this wonderful little one...I'm tired...and don't want to be. Are there any parents out there in this boat? In a lot of ways it is so cool...kids grow up so fast and I feel blessed that God let me have another one to enjoy the childhood with. There are a lot of advantages, but some not so cool things happen too. I would enjoy chatting with any one about this.

I am remarried with 5 boys now all grown, but I did do my time as a sole parent for almost ten years of two very young children so any time ya want to scream let it out

but as you mentioned you probably scream once or twice before with the other two, it is a hard and stressful job yet the most rewarding feeling I have ever known in my life.

at the moment we have taken in a young lady about a year and a half ago and helping her get her life in order and her son Landon he will be 2 in June

so once again we have pitter patter of little feet here again and it is a wonderful feeling, trust me i felt great showing these two women how to rock a baby to sleep when they couldn't do it and still occasionally come to me late at night and say he's yours any way any time ya want to yell in my direction do not hesitate

Hi Melody and Welcome to NeuroTalk. Well, my 2 kids are grown, so guess I can't give you much advice on running after a wee one... But, make yourself at home and join in anywhere.

45 yr old Grandma to a 2 yr old here. I babysit 2-3 days a week - my son lives with me, and has visitation, so the baby stays overnight.

I know you love her like I love ours, but it IS tough.




All I can say is there are things you can let go, that can wait, that other peole can do (maybe not as well as you do them, but good enough).

My house is not the way it used to be, and nobody died, lol.

Enjoy her while she's little, and ask for help.

Ooooh, had a baby when you were 40? My dear Mom did that too, and had an exceptionally wonderful child. Close to perfect, even.

Her baby girl weighed in at 10 lbs. and has been fat and happy ever since LoL!

Makes me tired just thinking about you! The trade-off is that it'll probably keep you looking young. Well, if you survive LOL! (Just kidding)

Gee, I was 22 when my oldest son was born, so when I was forty three he was 21 and a Junior in college. Youngest son was a junior in Highschool!

So I can't relate, but I can imagine it would be hard.

I did know people who had children when they were older.

My SIL's mother-in-law was pregnant at the same time my SIL was expecting. The mother in law was expecting #8 and my SIL was expecting her first.

Anyway, that means that MIL's baby was my SIL's baby's Aunt. Following this ?

My cousin had her first baby at 36, so her sons are much, much younger than my sons. Cousin and I are only a year apart.

I don't think it was so much of a problem when the baby was born, but when her baby was going to Kindergarten, my cousin was 41! The other moms were usually mid twenties or maybe 30ish.

My cousin said it really got to be hard when they were teens and she was in her 50's. Now she is 62 and her oldest is getting married, but mine has been married 18 yrs.

Interesting.

I think it's your attitude that will carry you though. Think how young and involved you'll feel.

My Mom was 40 when she had me. I think I was an "oops" baby but was loved just the same.

I had my boys when I was 21 and 25. So, they are grown now. But even then it was a struggle to keep up with them. Cannot imagine having to do it now - and with MS!!

But people do it all the time - and like Brain said - you just have to let others help out and let some things slide. Nobody cares if the house isn't in perfect order all the time. They grow up quick - and before you know it they're out on their own.

Sorry I can't offer any advice other than good luck and buy a good pair of running shoes!!

I have a good story about older woman having babies.

Years and years ago, (when I was about 15) my Aunt had a friend and we called her Lucy Minzeeuna. Now don't ask me why we called her that, the name stuck and I just sat back in my chair while reading these posts and I said "what the heck was the name of my aunt's friend who had a baby when she was 50??" Oh yeah!!!! Lucy Minzeeuna".

She was gorgeous. I remember being in my Aunt Josey's lving room and this tall black haired woman walks in with her daughter (who was 13).

I remember asking my mother "how old is Lucy Minzeeuna?" and I remember my mother laughing and saying "Melody, her name is NOT Lucy Minzeeuna but we just call her that, and she said "she's 63".

I said "what do you mean she's 63, she has a young kid?" and my mother said "yeah, we were all amazed. She got married at 49 to a guy 38. She never told him her age because she DIDN'T LOOK HER AGE.

Believe me people, the lady standing in front of me looked like no 63 year old woman I ever saw. She was about 5 feet 9, 130 lbs, long black hair and 63 years old. Red lipstick. I'll never forget the red lipstick.

The husband was not there at the time, but she was still happily married.

So if she married him at age 49 and had he was 38 and she was then 63, he must have been 52 when their kid was 13. And still happily married.

Don't know what became of her but at 63, she was the oldest person I knew PERSONALLY who gave birth at 50.

Melody - she sounds like my Aunt Margie. I always thought "Why is she not a movie star?" She was the most glamorous woman I ever knew. The long black hair, the red lipstick, tall, gorgeous.
