Angry Failed Rightside Rhizotomy

Hey There,

I am new to the site and was wanting to get some insight on Rhizotomies. I had my first thoracic one doneon July 17, 2008 and I am still feeling pain on my right side. I haven't gone for my follow up appointment yet. But I am very discouraged due to the fact that I thought I would have better results. I really thought there would be less pain. Is there anyone out there that has any feedback to what my issues are. Anyone with a history of failed Rhizotomy???~

Just Maintain,

I saw your post and just wanted to ask when your follow up appointment is. I am not so sure it failed because it is not uncommon to have an increase in pain after injections and/or an RF. It takes awhile for the nerves to die back so to speak. You had it done on the 17th so it has only been about 12 days. I would say to give it at least another two weeks. I had an RF done once and am about ready to have another one. With the first one I had (for the lumbar/sacral area) I did have an increase in pain for a few days...but in the long run had relief for over a year. So, give it a little more time and see what happens. By the time your follow up comes around your doc will be able to tell you if it failed or not. Hang in there.
