In Remembrance
|
I just had a 'moment' which I can count on having daily with increasing frequency. It is more likely to occur around dinner time, when I am at my sinemet peak, but what I am in denial about, is that it really happens all the time.
My sister's friend called and asked if I wanted Chinese for dinner. I had just cooked some leftovers and tried to say, "Sorry, if you had called a bit earlier I would have said yes." It came out, "I'm sorry I missed your call." This was accompanied with a good deal of stammering because I 'knew' it wasn't what I meant. So it sounded something like, ''Oh ..auh...mm..u'm sorry I missed your call." Which didn't answer the question. I have two cousins close to my age, our parents were siblings and we are becoming good friends. I always was close to one, but the other lived further away and we lost touch for quite awhile. She is a nurse who works in an assisted living facility and deals with many pd patients. She asked me to sit by her at lunch, so she could hear me. The other cousin was happy to sit across from me because she reads my lips. Oh, I guess I've become quite a mumbler. Three women, all from the same bloodline, all aging enough to lose track of the conversation rather frequently but having much to talk about. One of them had short term memory impariment from toxic shock syndrome many years ago; the other's husband represented her in a successful lawsuit. But I was pronounced the one who could retrace us back to where we got off topic the best. This surprised me; I chalked it up to having the most experience with distractability. I am planning to add examples of what was the most appropriately named symptom ever by a patient.....clognition.... by Greg Wasson. I'm inviting others to do the same and I am particularly interested in whether or not you think it's from sinemet more than pd, or vice versa, or both. At the least misery loves company and it might result in some smiling. thanks, paula

Paula,
I can say I don't think it's the sinemet; I have similar difficulty with stammering and not saying what I'm thinking and I am not yet on the drug. It is something that has become more pronounced with the onset of my other symptoms and was not present before. Lucky for me, I'm expected to be a listener, not a speaker. Grant |
