Hi I stumbled upon this forum on google in search of remedies for coccyx pain.
I got in a fight about 3 1/2 months ago and when I turned to walk away the other party kicked me as hard as they could. For the following weeks my hip locked up while walking and has been painful ever since. I had meant to see a doctor but put it off due to my busy schedule. two days ago I did finally see a doctor and discovered via x-ray that my coccyx is crooked. Yet while the area around my coccyx does hurt the real pain is generating from deep within my hip. I am thinking a bruised bone, perhaps, since the xray showed no signs of damage to the hip. I can only assume that kick broke my tailbone and fused together crooked. The doctor I saw was less than helpful telling me very little more than to take ibuprofen to reduce inflamation and pain. I am looking for information that will help me releive the pain and some advice on what type of doctor would be best to see, as the family practitioner was of no help. |

I am thinking perhaps a chiropractor. I usually do yoga regularly but have taken a hiatus due to the pain. The other day I did some gentle stretches which aggrevated my sciatic nerve and changed the dull ache to a sharp, or rather stabbing pain.
Does anyone here have an idea of how long an injury like this may take to completely heal? |

Hello kalista,
Welcome, I don't have any first hand knowledge of coccyx injuries, I'm sure some are more serious than others depending on the level of damage. i do know that there are therapists & some body workers that might be of help. You might got to another dr and see about getting an MRI for more details images. You might need to do some calling or emailing to track down one that treats coccyx dysfunctions. Sometime PT places will know of drs specialties and may suggest names. A qualified chiro would be good too.

Hi Kalista,
I have a fractured coccyx...two places. I never even knew it until my spinal PM happened to be doing a lumbar injection and saw it. Fast forward...I had an MRI done and then later, he did a block of the ganglion impar which helped considerably! Also, I went into pelvic floor PT which also helped. The best advice I can give is to see a spine doc and take it from there. Also, constipation makes it ever so much worse so watch that. These days it doesn't bother me too much but there are times I can feel it start to act up. |
