Default Infomercials, gotta have this...

Since you all know I watch too much TV, and I was just watching something and a commercial came on for a caulking gadget that essentially helps you put caulk down and scrape the excess away. I also have seen many commercials for the "Snuggie", which is a blanket with arms. Why not just put a robe on backwards?

So, the questions in this thread are 1) what infomercials do you find annoying? 2) what infomercials have sold you? and 3) generally do you buy from them or do you go to the mall for the "As seen on TV store" as I do if I find something I like, like the suction cup hand grips which I want to get for my bathroom.

I got sucked in and bought the Titan Peeler. I also got charged for some voicemail service on my phone bill from ordering that. It was hidden in the fine print or something,I guess. Called my phone company and cancelled that as soon as I saw it on my bill.

I used to take calls for the crap....errr...products on tv. (I took incoming calls)

It's ALL crap.

And those voicemail things and buying clubs that they ask you if you want to try the 30 day free trial of....ALWAYS SAY NO!!

When you call to order that stuff, the person taking the order has to read a script. They cant deviate from it. What's annoying is all the upsell crap (30 day free trials...upgrades on whatever your buying) they're required to be read, and back when I was taking these calls, they started to make us ask people continuously if they wanted to add something, even if the person had said no twice. We'd get these scriptings that would make us ask again and again. Irritating as hell to tick off the callers like that.

Most of this junk ends up in the stores eventually, it'd be much easier to wait for Walgreens to get the junk and then buy it there (easier to return if you dont like it)

I pretty much lost all faith in humanity working for that place. Even WalMart was a much better place to work than for a telemarketing company. (and WM really sucked rocks to work for)

I ordered that TitanPeeler online. That's why I didn't see the part where I needed to say no to the voicemail thing. Lesson learned though.

Lightbulb Billy Mays

has to be the most irritating person on the planet.

My mute button is almost worn off because of him.

Mr ShamWow comes in second!

Never buy things from TV. They have hidden ways to gouge you
into spending MORE.

There are catalogs now with "As seen on TV" which are much less money if you "have" to have some gadget.

When you feel the pull to buy, first search on Google.
type in the name of the item and review...and see what others have said. It can be a real eye opener. ShamWow for example is really a SHAM. Some of the reviews explain how they got shafted by hidden costs, abuses with your credit card, and more.

I agree.....can't he talk in a normal tone of voice??

I google everything....and you're right....it's a real eye opener. If there is something that really interests me I wait until Rite Aid or Walgreen's has it. I've bought a couple of things and have been happy with them.

I usually wait until Melody does her "Consumer Report" on an item then I'll go buy it!!

My husband gets up early early. Whoohooo, just in time for informercials.

Man with credit card and Tv do not mix. He has bought some stupid stuff.

Yup, the add ons add up to some money being wasted. Even more than the dumb products.

The worst, Focus Factor. The stuff is garbage. He took it. You would think he would remember to call and cancel the monthly fee they charged. Not until 6 months later.

That chicken rotiserie grill thingy he bought for me...I used 1x. Off to Goodwill it went.

He did learn his lesson. He watches, then asks me to look up reviews. Plus he knows any exercise equipment sold on TV will end up at Goodwill. So why not buy it for $10.

Billy Mays.... oh yep. When I have the chance I zip through him with TiVo... but, I usually see him and his products when watching baseball... so, I just use the 30seconds to get a snack

To the original question, nope I don't buy products via commercials... I'd rather go to a store and see the product.
