Default OT- Doctor's response

My sister had to take her son to a gastro -enterologist in the States. He has threatened her with taking her to Social Services for starving her son because she is forcing her son to be gluten free. His response is that he does not have the "gold standard diagnosis".

Because she is married to a doctor, her power and family history are not considered legitimate. Reading about the lack of gluten sensitivity at the Celiac Symposium shows that we need to educate the medical world first. I thought that France was bad.

Hanna--she found an ignorant doctor--1st thing she needs do is to find a new doctor. A gluten free lifestyle can not harm anyone, this doctor does not understand gluten free, so therefore he is disallowing it as valuable--how sad!!!!!!!!!!!! Not everyone here is like that, yet I do believe that most doctors need to be fully educated on celiacs and gluten sensitivity.

This is very upsetting to me because of course my daughter is not gold star and I can't imagine anyone ever trying to intervene on our gluten free living. I suggest your sister find a doctor quickly who understands gluten sensitivity a little better because I have read of one or two cases where social services WAS called in. This seems unfathomable, but I think there was a case recently discussed on another celiac forum (can't remember which one...but Linda will..I think she is the one that saw it).

I agree that this doctor is ignorant and very likely arrogant.

Good heavens. What's next, they'll report you to Child Services for not feeding your child sugar because they're not fat? Or report you for not feeding your kid pork if you're a Kosher Jew? That is just infuriating!

But it shows you how far the brainwashing about grains goes. The USDA is pressured into promoting grains to support agriculture so they overhype them so much that everyone believes they've got to eat them in order to survive.

How did mankind manage to make it until the last few hundred years where most of the population didn't eat much gluten containing grains?
