Default OMG I insulted a friend.

Ok, its one of those days. I have a HORRIBLE cold, and have felt crappy for days. fevers, and sore throats, and my to do list is growing by the hour. I had a horrible time sleeping last night, and had bad dreams, night sweats, and so on. I woke to find my email box FULL (74) of Angel emails, please forward this to 20 people in 20 minutes or 20 people will die. Please click on xyx website to cure global warming (I am buried in SNOW!) dont you care about the starving children in africa? (what about american children?) and the like. the Maxine the queen and cute puppies, and all the like. I was FLOORED! 74 flipping emails! I am extremely visually challenged, and it was upsetting.

The lead email was from a church woman I know. We are not best buds, but I have had some respect from her. I cleaned out the church computer yesterday, and gave her my email address so that she could contact me if anything else goes wrong. Well, she sent out BLANKET emails of crap! then her friends got me on their address books, and I got their crap! and so on, and so on. I sent a reply to ALL. announcing that I am extremely visually challenged, and while I appreciate all of the humor, and concern floating across the world, to pepper my in box with angel emails, and global warming email creates a HUGE amount of work for me, AND it exposes me to everyone on their address book. Most people dont take care to BCC folks, and protect their friends from their friends. I blathered on and said that I tend to be PROactive about Mother Earth, instead of being REactive to the media hype that has so many living in a FEAR based society. If you have found my name on YOUR address book, and have NO reason to contact me, PLEASE remove me!

My friend wrote me this letter about how I embarrassed her to the rest of HER addressed friends, and I should have replied to HER privately. (she didnt think of replying to ME privately when she sent this crap out!) So, she expressed how hurt she was that I chose to lash out at her. An hour later, I get a call from the pastor that I really hurt her feelings, and would I consider an apology!!!??! Is she kidding!?! So, I laid into the pastor, to tell her that I am recovering from ON, and how insensitive it was for this person to expose me to so many strangers with their boxes full of angels, and starving children. I refused to apologize, and asked the pastor to please reveal to this woman just how much harm can be done to a personal computer when your name starts swirling in unknown circles!

So, not only did I hurt a nice lady, I chewed out a pastor! Im going to H E double hockey sticks...you just gotta know that.

I am tired of the box full of crap! If you were truly thinking of me, you would have written me a letter, or an email TO ME! not some blanket thing. sheesh!

Ok, i need chocolate. wheres the chocolate?!

I'm on your side ..

Many people just do not realize how much spammers love all those forwarded emails with all the other addresses showing.

plus the personal privacy issue.

A lot of people just do not think about the big picture.

I have a pet peeve about those multiple fwds too,
if a person can't send me a personal email they can just not send me that other baloney !

Maybe after you are calmer you can explain better to her why you were upset.
you might send this link out to all of those that fwd'd to you.

Thumbs up

One of Lil'Monkey's teachers did this today.

Sent out the Bill Gates will give you money one.

First off, the school has policies on this. The email was loaded with all the emails of the all the people who had sent this FW. Hundreds.

I emailed the teacher to take me off of her parent contact list and all FW's.

I also notified the principal. Wasn't trying to be tattle tail, but that teacher gave out parents email addy's to all on her personal list. When I gave her my addy, I knew, as do all the parents, that we would get FW emails regarding class stuff, not spam.

You did the right thing. If your tone was harsh, that's one thing, but not the message you needed to get across. I've apologized for the tone, but whenmy message is spot on, no.

I too am on your side Dejibu!

It really annoys me also when I get lots of the blanket emails - especially the ones that say "Forward this to 20 people or else you will die in 20 minutes" - what a load of rubbish ... I NEVER send them on to anyone else and I haven't died so far lol!!

I have a friend who is "addicted" to the spam emails and she will forward them onto everyone - I spoke to her about it and she said that if she didn't, she would die so I explained to her that they annoy me and I never send them to anyone and I haven't died and she said that she didn't believe me and that I must send them to someone else!

I have vision problems sometimes and there is nothing worse than going to check your emails and having a load of junk mail!! It really frustrates me and people that I don't even know send them to me - how they got my email address, i'll never know!!

The emails that say "give $1 a week to help African Children" annoy me quite a lot also! Whilst I have respect that they don't have any food or water, I think people also need to realise that not many of us have lots of money to spend on every charity under the sun ... if we did, we wouldn't have any money left for our food and water at all LOL. It also sometimes makes me wonder whether the money actually does go to the charities or whether it is just someone "pretending" to do a good thing and lining their pockets with money!

I hope your friend realises how hurt and annoyed you were by the emails and I completely agree with you - you don't need to apologize!! Your friend should have asked you if it was OK to send those emails before she actually did do!

Thinking about you and hope you get things sorted soon - if not, try and forget about her - you don't need the hassle on top of everything else!!!

I get these sometimes but 45? I've been guilty of forwarding some things I think are good but not that bad. If a person tells you the email address is only for emergency contact they should listen.

I'm glad you posted this. It might make some of us offenders take notice.

Your pastor wants you to apologize? How about her apologizing to you?

Just thought of this...
You can set up most emails with message filters - if you do get a lot of FWDs.. or any other spam that you don't really want..

set up the message filter to the subject line - with the word - "fwd" and maybe "FWD" also.
and have it send it to your junk file - then you can double check just in case someone you know send you something important.

or you can set it to just delete it.
some links explaining how to do it- if one isn't clear for you try another link -

I have put spammers and the like to be immediately routed to the "junk" folder.

Cheers!

I'm with you, Dej, I have asked all my friends to cool it, I don't give a hoot what oppressed group is in desperation this week, I do my own caring and giving and don't need help identifying causes to care about.

However, this is one of my biggest causes and I will never quit pitching the stupid, obsolete, poorly written, excessive crap that finds its way into my box.

If I die, explode, get cursed, or commit inadvertent homicide by dumping crap where it belongs, oh well!

Don't send it to me, if it has "FW" FWD:" or any other variation, it goes straight into the crapper and you are hexed and subsequently doomed to eternity in my %$#@ box and go to the top of my %#@#$%^& list!

Now I need a nap.

So I guess I had better not send the FW to you to save our landfills that are getting overfilled by spam?
