10 weeks post op
I saw my neurosurgeon for my second follow up since decompression surgery for chiari 1, 5.6mm. I also had a large syrinx. At first follow up an mri was done and showed the syrinx had reduced in size.
Today he told me he didn't understand all the symptoms I was having. Ringing in ears , he acted surprised and said still yet ! Pain in arm and shoulder and pain between shoulder blades he thought was muscular. Weakness in hands and hands shaking when trying to feed myself, blurred vision and spike headaches. He told me hard work would make me sleep better and to start walking to where I can walk for 45 minutes and to do anything I felt like doing even shooting a gun and pulling back a compound bow.
He more or less turned me loose to do whatever I am capable of. I go back in three months and he wants an MRi to see what the syrinx is doing. I want to be happy for the outcome of my visit but I am also skeptical with having the symptoms I am having. It kinda scares me because I don't wanna reinjure myself nor make my situation worse. But he(NS) seems to think it won't hurt me. He acted like I am as good as new now and should be able to do what I want and can. Has anyone else been turned loose so soon and if so did you do okay?
