Just looking for more feedback on my possible chiari situation. Current symptoms for me are off balance feelings (both balance tests I have had to date I "failed", report mentions possible CNS malody), heavy fatigue not helped by rest, ringing in the ears, headaches behind the eyes. Whiplash concussion back in 2000 started all this. MRI then mentioned "evidence of chiari one malformation", but my neuro dismissed this as nothing. 2011, symptoms in full force, I get another MRI. Neuro says everything is alright, can't help me. BUT...I read the report and it states L and R neural foramen both severely narrowed. Am I missing something here? This can't be normal. I am just certain that something is behind the way I feel. All other tests...thyroid, blood, adrenals, lyme...come back normal. Again, a whiplash all started this which really makes me suspicious of this chiari. Any comments?

I would get a second opinion from another neurologist. Neurologists are generally more forthcoming about your problem then surgeons that will turn you away if they think they don't want to work on you, which does not mean you don't have a problem.
I had one neuro tell me "its in my head, o rmaybe this or maybe that, but I could be on drugs also...)" The other extreme was "don't do anything and move next to an expert surgical center as you could be paralyzed tomorrow". They all knew what a Chiari is though, and a Syrinx. There is a formula as to what they consider "normal"and what is borderline. If you see another neuro and get the same then they may apply that formula and feel that you are not in danger of some sort. I hope you find an answer to your problems. |
