Arrow Should we try Celebrex. Is it safe?

I am worried about my girlfriend taking Celebrex. Her doctor says it is no worse than Ibuprophen, but from what I have heard on TV and written in emails, the side effects for Celebrex is much worse. Does it seem to you to heed warnings for Asthma sufferers and high blood pressure, Diabetes, stomach ulcers, that mixed with Celebrex could be fatal? I don't want my girlfriend to take it, she has these sufferings, and our doctor does wants her to take it. The doctor prescribed Seroquel for her one night and she had seizures all night long. What should we do?

concerned.

These anti-inflammatories all seem to have bad side effects and are probably best avoided, or at least taken minimally.
Any one taking them is part of the drug trial, as they haven't been out long enough to have been properly tested over time.
Would you trust a drug company with your health in this case???
Your friend may have a drug sensitivity, so any new one should be taken at a very small dose for a while-say 1/4 tablet only.
You are right to be concerned-all drugs have as much potential to harm as to help, and you never really know which one you will receive.

When we choose a medication for a long-term chronic condition, we are saying the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk - i.e. the quality of my life is so poor without it that the risk of even death is worth it. Sometimes we feel we have no choice, simply because we do not know more benign choices exist, or because the benign alternatives are also unacceptable because of lack of funds ($$$ - insurance may pay for something riskier rather than the benign), or our own inherent human weaknesses (such as a person with type 2 diabetes not exercising).
