Default OT: I just bought a new fangled car!

I wanted to post this on BT but for some reason that place won't let me start a new thread.
Anywhoooo.... bought a electric/gas car! It is sooooo cool! It is so different then anything else I have ever driven. I don't need the key on the door (or push a remote entry button) and I don't need an ignition key.
You don't charge the battery, it charges itself as you drive!
It has alll these cool things... took us about 15 minutes to figure out how to use the radio and climate control LOL
Its really pretty too.... sporty but really roomy inside.
love it, love it, love it!!

Congratulations on your new car!

My dad had one of those hybrid cars. He said the hardest thing to get used to was when the car would essentially turn itself off when he sat at a red light, and then turn itself back on when he touched the gas pedal.

Unfortunately they no longer have the car -- he and my step-mom got in a car accident in the car. They were rear-ended on the highway, but because of the safety features they walked away without a scratch. The car was totaled, but they were 100% fine.... they are on a waiting list for a new hybrid car.

I'm glad you love your new car! Congratulations!

Liz

Yeah, thats a weird thing. When the car is stopped the gas engine dosn't run, so it sounds like it is off, but its on.
It is sort of like driving an iron.
Went to have it photographed for the insurance today..... odd experience for everyone. We could not figure out where/how the alarm system worked. It seemed it didn't have one. It has the smart key, so you don't need a key to open the door and if you walk up to the door with the smart key in your pocket it unlocks for you. It has a panic button, but that dosn't count as an alarm either. The book says that if the door is forced open.. the alarm goes off... but outside of a burgular, who is gonna do that?

Talking interesting...

Is it a Toyota?

We have been thinking about them too.

Why do you have to photograph it, for insurance? I have never heard of that.

What is the acceleration like?

I have to chuckle... we buy cars about every 10 yrs. I just got a new one,
in Sept, and it took ME alot of time to figure out the new fangled thingeys!
And it is not even a hybrid! LOL The manual is 397 pages! and this is just a basic model! LOL

Trophy

yes, you need photographs for collision insurance when you buy a used car.

The acceleration is fabulous, its like driving an iron. Its just zooooooooooom!!

I don't want to kill myself (naturally) or anyone else, but this car takes off really well. There isn't the slightest bit of hestitation, no shifting of the tranny, it just goes.

I find I get much better gas mileage when I don't look at the thingamajig that tells you your average mpg. I got 48 mpg going to work the other day, just driving the way I always did.

The dealer told me it had an 11 gallon tank, but me thinks it may be more like a 7 gallon tank. It says its empty at around 300 miles or so, and it takes about 6 + gallons of gas when I fill it.

I wish the tank was a tad larger, but no complaints with this mpg.

Wink I just saw a gorgeous

Toyota Prius on the road this week.... it was really a nice looking thing!

Too small for us, but really spiffy...and red! I suspect it was an 2007 tho,
but not sure.

Glad you are liking it! I hope a hybrid van comes soon. I'd buy one of those,
next time around!

Yes it is a Prius, but a 2004. It is much larger inside than outside... figure that out :icon_wink:
