Default Grandson with autism

Hi..thank you for reading this.
My grandson is 3 years old and unofficially diagnosed with autism. His parents will be taking him to a specialist in Sept (the soonest they could get him in) for a barrage of testing & evaluation. In the meantime, they are doing what they can between childcare and independant reading.
Both my daughter and I read that weighted blankets or vests can be a great comfort or stress reducer to an autistic child, but they are so very expensive. Does anyone on here know of a place we can purchase these items from, at a decent price? Or have a comparable pattern from which I could make a blanket?
Again, thank you for reading this, and any info on these items is greatly appreciated!

Calming the Senses with weighted blankets.

How awful that it takes so long to get answers. Some things haven't changed in years. Took us years here actually. Many, many years.

Regarding the vests... obviously you and your daughter have been reading a lot. Temple Grandin is the person I would like to suggest researching information regarding weighted vests. Also check on Sensory Integration sites. You might find more info. there regarding the weighted vests.

You could perhaps make your own? I'm not in the USA so I have no idea of the cost of buying something like that there.

Let us know how you're getting on there.

Hi there!!!!

My oldest has Autism. Actually, the school diagnosed him. He is considered high functioning.

I found the vests on ebay. I dont believe they were terribly expensive. You can tell they were hand made. the lady asked for sizes and let you pick the material. The weights were sealed bags of dry rice. in the inside pockets.
It didnt seem to help my boy...go figure!!! .

Good Luck!!!!! Hang in there!!!!!

MM
