There is increasing evidence that differences in the kinds of bacteria (the "gut microbiome") which normally live in the gut are causally linked to risk of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

This is currently at the "basic science" stage but it may, depending on how the results turn out, lead to improved treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

A search for "gut microbiome" and "Autism Spectrum Disorder" will provide references.

I don't think there is a mystery here. Autism causes anxiety, often chronic anxiety. Wouldn't your stomach hurt too if you were anxious basically all the time?
