Back with a little more...

H just got diagnosed with BiPolar on Monday. The Doc took him off Wellbutrin which wasn't working and put him on Depakote and Serquel (sp?).He's actually been doing loads better since getting the diagnosis, he says it makes him feel like hes got a "real" disease and its just not him.

Jamie is still at home and not in School. I am having the hardest time with the School District over here ( lots of miscommunication between the County, SELPA and District). The guy in charge dosen't know diddly as hes new to his post! There isn't an appropriate placement for Jamie so I am looking into Non Public School Placements for him. We may be even placing him in an ABA School.I'm not sure how he'll do as hes always been in a TEACCH bases classroom. Keep your fingers crossed that we get it figured out SOON.... He hasn't been sleeping and his stims and behaviors are escalating.
Thats all for now..
Keg I have a new number... PM me for it!

Welcome back, Danielle!

Finding your way through the wild jungle of different services you need a machete to hack through miscommunication, in other words, the service providers are so overwhelmed that they get all confused, first they have to follow/respond to policies/protocols..... and responding to parents concerns gets all mucked up.... good luck there.

Funny how the pattern repeats itself, over and over I read the same situation. A person is prescribed an antidepressant in your h's case Wellbutrin, it did nothing??? and then he is diagnosed with Bipolar or mood disorder and now he is on two drugs: an anticonvulsant (or "mood stabilizer") Valproic acid (Depakote) and Seroquel, an antipsychotic. A doctor once told me "Once on antipsychotics, always on antipsychotics", meaning what?

Antidepressants on some people cause mood instability....funny how the pattern repeats itself. But at least he can speak and tells you and the doctor how it feels on this and that drug.

His words should be the quote of the century: "He says it makes him feel like hes got a "real" disease and its just not him". That's insight!
