Hey Keg,
Once a long time ago, I was asking about good books for girl/social stuff, and I'm pretty sure it was you who told me about one you and your daughter really enjoyed. My question was, was that book "Cliques, Phonies, & Other Baloney" and if not, do you recall what it was? A friend she's had since kindergarten is all of a sudden being 'mean', she has two 'popular' friends this year and is totally treating Carmen like dirt. Plus, Carmen has never really found her niche, she's a great kid...but with nice kids she's like too pushy or wild cause she's so excited to have peer interaction and attention, then with mean kids she just can't out maneuver - she's doesn't have a malicious or calculating bone in her body. She might get someone back in the midst of hurt feelings, but is just not the plotting type or anything. She wants to see everyone happy, sweet and idealistic. I think we bought about 6 books on the subject, I recall that being one of the better ones.. but I could be wrong. My dd read(s) them more than I.
The books really helped her to ridentify and understand peoples behavior and (I believe) has helped her to not be victimized by some of the more nastier ones. |

Ok, thanks!
We watched Akeeyah(sp) and the Spelling Bee movie, it was neat watching her sort of figuring and caluculating in her head, why some of the girls were treating her this way and that. I'm just no good at helping her in this area. I say not to let it bother you etc... but it does bother her, as it bothered me. Anyhow, I ordered the book. Thanks! Mili |

anytime moldy.
There was this other book that I saw on Oprah, geared to parents... that we bought called "Odd Girl Out: The Hidden Culture of Aggression in Girls" by Rachael Simmons. My husband insisted on buying it from seeing it on the show, but never read it (and neither did I because I have too much to read already) my dd has read some of it and... (she is like me she reads many books at a time...) anyhow... I heard it was really good. |

Hmmmm, well the title sure sounds great. I might have to get that too, but first I'll have to get through the one I ordered with Carmen.
And I'm so dumb, I should have first asked the school counselor if she had it so I could borrow it. I'll do that with the book on Oprah, she has so many and loans them out. Thanks Krust! Mold |

Brainhead, that book is so popular your library may have it. Actually, they probably have both.

When I lose the book at home and it takes me months to return it, I don't have to pay fines to the school conselor

Sorry to butt in, but there was a commercial on TV the other night...
One of the ABC news programs (20/20 or PrimeTime I forget which, but I'm pretty sure it was ABC) is doing a show soon (this week I think) about teenagers and and the title of the show is "Mean Girls", and my impression from the commercial is that they are going to explore why some girls are mean and what can be done to protect yourself or your child from these 'mean girls' type of bullying. It just sonded like something that might be helpful, so I thought I would mention it. |
