In my experience as a Special Ed. Teacher with a wide variety of students many liked Math because answers did not vary. 1 + 1 is always 2 but in Reading, especially essays, answers can vary. I had a student with Dyscalculia (spelling?)(like Dyslexia but with math). At 13 the concept of 1+1=2 was difficult. Teaching strategies and learning strategies had to be appropriate for the student.
