Default Imuran questions

Does anyone else take Imuran? I have been taking it for a year or so and have sores in my mouth. I have a prescription for "magic mouthwash" and a dental appointment today. Should I be using different toothpaste? I also get sores in my nose but don't have them now. Any suggestions?

I took immuran for over a year but was pulled off it because of low WBC counts. never had a mouth sore on it. I'm on cellcept now and participating in a clinical study in which I receive 4 infusions of either rituxin or a placebo over a year. I had the first one yesterday and I'm betting I got the placebo.
I got my first mouth sour about a month ago. The are very annoying.

Went to the dentist today...he recommended Biotene toothpaste - said the whitening agent and the tarter control agent in many toothpastes are too harsh on the gums when on immune supressants...we'll see if the combo of Biotene and "Magic Mouthwash" does the trick.

Default Imuran

I have been taking imuran since 11/06. I had sores in mouth and sometimes nose prior to imuran and since imuran. Oral uncers are a notorious symptom of autoimmune problems. I have a friend who takes Valtrex for these (she has lupus) but valtrex did nothing for me. I also have dry mouth (sicca syn). I have found a few things help a little: drink frequent sips of water--avoid pop, even diet, due to acid. I found my partial which has a lot of metal on it aggravates the sores, so I recently got a plastic flipper (looks just like partial but is all plastic--can't eat in it but gets the metal out of my mouth most of the time. Metal makes my sores worse. I lived on majic swizzle all last summer. Also, if there is any chance you have any gastric reflux, take zantac, prilosec, or something cause I have found acid indigestion makes the sores worse. I finally got rid of mine when I took a round of difulcan (spelling?). Also use biotene dry mough toothpaste and mouthwash--rec by dentist. And all of the other stuff I have listed above have lelped also. Good luck. Nancy

Default On Imuran also....

Hi...I've been on it plus Prednisone for 4+ years now...so far it's not caused any other problems.
I did go off it for a few weeks....my D-Rea got much worse.
I take it for uncontrolable Crohns disease.
But....I began a gluten free diet a month ago....so far so good!
Maybe I'll go off the Immuran for good!
Blessings, cheryl
