i have small fiber neuropathy. the dr took alot of blood work he did a G1 AB panel. everything in the panel was normal except the Ganglioside (GD1a) AB,IGG/IGM. i got 123 WHEN NORMAL IS 0-50. THE RESULTS SAY THAT GD1A ANTIBODIES ARE ASSOCIATED WITH VARIENTS OF GUILLIAN BARRE SYNDROME (GBS)PARTICULARMOTIR AXONA NEUROPATHY.
DIES ANYONE UNDERSTAND THAT. IS IT A DINDING THAT WILL BE HELPFUL. WHAT SHOULD I ASK THE DR? THANKS |

Gangliosides are complex lipids which are found on the surfaces of some neurons.
What the test showed is that there are antibodies of the IgM and IgG classes specific of one ganglioside (GD1a) present in your blood at levels above the reference range of the lab which did the analysis. This can be indicative of Guillain–Barré syndrome. I would be inclined to discuss the possibility of Guillain–Barré syndrome with your doctor. This general information about it may help you with this Guillain–Barre syndrome - Wikipedia .

Apart from the elevated levels of anti-ganglioside IgM and IgG is there any other clinical evidence that you may have an autoimmune disease?
A referral to an experienced clinical immunologist could help in this context.
