Smile Do you have creatures near you like birds and squirrels?

Hi,

Our old place had lots of noisy birds at night and in the morning.
I'm glad to be away from them.

--We have squirrels like we had at the old place. Hubby likes squirrels.
--Today I saw about 8 iguanas sitting in the sun and a few had crossed the road. I think there were more but I didn't stop to count and they were hiding. You can see their heads that they raise in the grass. You can't often see how long they are.
--Hubby has seen two little snakes out side the front door. He thought that they were cute. (??) -- ah the pleasures of living in Florida

--I've seen a little fox at the park where I walk. Sometimes he (she?) is there around sunset. She is very small -- not much bigger than a house cat -- maybe looking for food.

Default that is one beautiful creature

Did you take that pic, Mari?

i have never been privileged to see an iguana in the wild either, even though i have lived places where they live.

in the islands we used to have huge chicken snakes (pythons - up to 8 ft long) and grass snakes - nothing poisonous, but we got scared once when our very very BOLD cat decided to "investigate" an adult chicken snake. (hurried over to neighbor's to retrieve cat!)

we also had lots of lizards... i especially liked the brilliant slim, green ones - they were not chameleons, but could change color to a dull grey-brown depending on where they were.

the most amazing ones though were these big lizards (up to 1 foot long), mostly brown black longitudinal stripes on their backs, plus a single iridescent turquoise stripe down very middle - looked like applied eye makeup! i saw smaller ones of these where i lived in Florida too...plus lots of birds lakeside... the black kind with red shoulders and lots of others.

both places had all different kinds of birds... too many to list. my favorites were the hummingbirds - many varieties in the islands especially. the ruby-throated male is stunning.

i do miss the fauna and flora from the islands and florida.

here we have birds and we have sighted A squirrel (ONE!) in a neighbor's yard. the birds are more noticeable in spring when some have very melodious song. the swallows are also interesting as they "swarm" in circles at dusk and dawn: that is when they feed - they hunt/catch insects while airborne! quite a sight, really. they fly very high so the noise is not bad, even though they have a high-pitched shriek.

i must say, i do NOT miss the giant flying cockroaches from the islands and florida, lol.

~ waves ~

p.s. a friend of mine had a pet iguana... he and his wife would "wear" him on their head a lot. he seemed to like being perched up there... perhaps because there was a good view, lol. those things have wicked claws though, when they feel the need to grip.... OUCH!!!

HI,
I found that picture on the internet but that iguana is pretty close to the ones I've seen around here.
I've noticed them at the park where I walk around a tiny lake and at work where we also have a tiny lake / pond.

Sometimes they scurry away in the grass or up a tree if they see someone approaching. (The ones that live in the wild are careful to keep their distance from people.)

Snakes are freaky.

I don' know why I am not fond of birds. I'm sure that they are interesting once one learns a little bit about them.

In Michigan we has deer, squirels, foxes, owls, bats, chipmunks, garter snakes, skunks, possums, fat racoons.

I have seen all of them around except for an owl. We get bats in the house once in awhile. lol silly bats!

Default It's a (frozen) jungle out there!

Let me see: coyotes, wolves, falcons, hawks, owls, bears...

Is any of this making you feel better about the squirrels?

well... yeah... sorta...

'cep for the bit where i'm just envisioning the missing squirrels as coyote- wolf- falcon- hawk- and owl-food.

ooooh i love owls. whoooooo whooooooo! but the ones i have are all in the form of mini collectible sculptures.

i forgot to say in the islands we had tons of gorgeous butterflies - swallowtails were my favorites. and bat-moths! big ol' scary looking things but harmless. their larvae (big fuzzy caterpillars) were not so harmless ... not sure what plant they fed on but they would practically decimate it.

here, i have seen some really brilliant dragonflies when i used to run on the country roads - a gleaming scarlet one and a bright blue kind!
