Default I think Derrick's SSI review is going good

I returned a call to the person doing derrick's disability side for SSi. It seemed to go pretty good. I've thought it was odd we hadn't gotten paperwork to take him to the psychiatrist like the other two. But I think
that his is going more on his disability for the mild handicap and his seizures.

I'm hoping after she talks to his teacher a second time we can get a good
idea of the answer. Seems she has talked to her about his schooling once.

this to me is good.

donna

Then about my parent today. Gosh how do you calm someone down enough to work with them. This mom needs to let the school work with her. Its not going to work if she continues to fight everything they say. Plus the fact she
takes everything home and ask the kid the questions.

And this is a student with a emotional handicap that many have been in working to help straighten out the problems. I;m worried, that I'm not going to be able to do what this parent needs.

Dear Donna,
You have helped that parent considerably even if it looks to you that you are not getting what would normally be the desired outcome.

For some people, being heard is more important than getting what they need. You have facilitated her getting her say.

Good luck with Derrick.

Heart Dear Donna

I agree with Mari that this could be a "partial success" ... you can mediate interactions, but you cannot control the parent's actions. it sounds as though you are doing a good job. i bet if you weren't there the whole thing would turn into a forestfire... so even if you end up with a bit of a bonfire with this parent... well... do not allow it to get you down, or get you thinking you aren't doing enough. you can only do what you can do. you can't jump into her skin and do things for her, unfortunately.

i can appreciate though how frustrating it must be for you, when you have such good perspective, to have someone that seems to be behaving like a bull in a china shop and your position limits you to trying to soothe the bull, direct the bull, and sweep up glass. a bull is still a bull, no matter how much you would like to change her into a horse. (i am not trying to call your client an animal - i hope i didn't go too far with the behavioral metaphor, which is all that was intended.)

hang in there sweet lady.

~ waves ~

p.s. oh and i am glad Derrick's SSI review seems to be going well... keep us posted.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the good thoughts. And the honest
things your saying.

Its true I am doing the listening and what I can to help. It just doesn't
seem like enough. But it has to be enough. I will be there as long
as I need.

Default Would you keep Piglet in your prayers

Also I would appreciate it if you would keep Piglet or Piggy my dog in your prayers. She has been feeling bad today.

Not sure but I think she has a upper respritory infection or something.

Wish I knew if there was anything I could do for her.

If you can get her to stay put... try taking her in the bathroom and running a hot bath or a shower... steam up the room... we've done this with a couple of our dogs...

Dear Donna,
What I mean is she is not ready for listening.
She really wants to talk. She wants to have her say and she needs to keep saying it or awhile. She has a lot to get out of her system.

She's not ready for solutions.
She'll get there in her own time.

(That's my guess.)

Mari

Your right and I understand. I just have a hard time waiting.

And thanks Abbie, I'll try that in the morning. She went to bed
with Derrick, and is asleep.
