Red face hiya Di

thanks for thinking of me. i am not so good right now.

but on a good note i managed to take a long-over due shower tonight.

i do not even feel better though. mostly relieved because of my hair.

sorry i didn't reply sooner.

i hope everyone had a nice halloween.

we don't decorate or anything. i had meant to get candies for the two or three kids that come by usually but wasn't up for it. we haven't in the past and typically have not answered the door... this year nobody even came.

it made me a bit sad, but no candy anyway so just as well.

today was All Saints' Day here. That would be a public holiday even if it didn't fall on a Sunday.

tomorrow (11/2) is All Souls' Day (not a holiday, traditionally people go to pay respects to loved ones that have passed on).

also bakeries make the "bread of the dead" which are these cinnamon/spicy-almond, soft, elongated cookie type things. very good. nice way to break in the cold weather.

Dear Waves,
That is great about the shower.
Time for celebration!

I googled pics of the bread / cookie type things you mention.

'Hoping you can be better.

Thanks Mari! Yeah, it is, really!

now i am curious what you found.

i had intended to go down to the bakery today and get some but i was off kilter. had had a low grade headache last night, right side, which i ignored as a possible side effect of the shower. today it was the left side and i thought... nahhhh... can't be... but ended up with a full migraine nausea and all. heck. i couldn't eat dinner.

i feel better now though but of course it is after midnight. bakery closes at 7.30. no running around and buying baked goods. maybe tomorrow.

i miss living where i could hop in the car at this hour or later, and drive to some big 24/7 albertson's or walmart or walgreens - if you wait until about 3am they are pretty deserted and peaceful lol! i used to do most of my shopping on night-owl hours, avoiding traffic on the roads, hustle and bustle in the stores, and lines at the check-out!

Heart

Hi Waves glad to see you post. I knew you were not feeling so great and wanted to let ya know I was thinking of you.
This year was the first I heard of All saints Day and the day to honor the passed.
Of course my kid knew though. She knows everything.....

The baked goods sound yummy. There are several Easter goodies the german and polish grandma's made, but nothing sounding that good.

I hope that the shower felt refreshing, I showered one day and washed the hair the next......pacing.
It is getting so long, De would never believe it. Our Katies is longer then her butt at 14 years old and mine is almost to my waist. It is below my elbows.
Looks terrible on an old fart nearly 55 year old.
Hang in there friend,
Di

Default hey there DiMarie

wow. hey what's wrong with having long hair at your age and don't you DARE call yourself old! i'll probably keep mine long as long as i can unless at some point i go through some whim and chop it... happens occasionally, and mine grows slowly.

mine is not quite as long as yours, or about the same, it is to my elbows. but it is longer in the back and shorter in the front and somewhat layered.

no the shower was really not refreshing but i got through without keeling is what. i sort of ambled in there without really planning it other than having it in the back of my mind for some time, and then just went through it like an automaton. i think not having the pre-anxiety helped. i also did it right before dinner so when i was done we would have to eat and mom would not get a chance to go in there and freak out about the steam before the vent got everything all nice and dry again - which it does, but she insists on toweling everything down panting furiously and muttering throughout that i should put the vent on DURING.. bla bla bla which upsets me because i can't deal with the cold draft that would cause, and yet watching her mop up upsets me too, but i think doing that is stupid and superfluous because if you wait a stupid half hour with the vent on the vapor clears out just fine!

[end shower rant, sorry.]

that's funny about your daughter knowing about All Saints' and All Souls' Day. FWIW, i did NOT know about this stuff until i came here either, lol. btw, here they call All Souls' Day "The Day of the Dead" ... *shudder* ... always sounds creepy to me!

they mentioned "compromised" weather for today.

what the heck is that. COMPROMISED??? hello? what the heck sort of prediction is that???? i've heard of colorful language but this is beyond any metaphor. does that mean we may only have partial weather? or be weatherless altogether? what happened to partly cloudy and chance of rain ... or windy, cloudy... you know, concrete terms like that? bad enough here they often speak in meteorologicalese, in stead of HUMAN... i.e. if sometimes we just get phenomena also. lovely.

how's our weather? oh... it's phenomenal lately!

[end weather rant]

i didn't sleep tonight i think i might be a bit punchy... guess i should sign off...

hope you have a good day today thanks again for thinking of me.

Hi,
My mother used to drag us to church both nights.
All the holy days were important to her -- even some of the ones that were not holy days of obligation (like All Souls' Day).

Here are recipes and pics for Pane dei Morti:
You mentioned almonds and cinnamon. This one also has chocolate and dates -- so maybe not exactly what you were talking about:

This one has a step by step guide with pictures:

This one (no picture) has Walnuts instead of almonds and raisins instead of dates.

I used to find baking rewarding.
