Default Wednesday night and my old professor

Hi,
My old professor contacted me again about her Wed night event. It is a big deal for her.

I've been racking my brain about how I could handle it.

I wish I could take off work AND pay someone to drive me and stay with me for the event and drive me home.
That is the only way it could work.
Even then, I would sneak out early and leave.

There is no way to explain to her that I can't go.

I wish I had someone I could get to drive.

I too wonder if you told her. You are being placed in so many difficult situations. I feel very positive about it. Maybe because I am finally receiving help the past few years and since I was two years old I always had to watch out for the other person(my father was sick and then became an alcoholic and then was probably bipolar II) It is awful growing up feeling omnipotent and so lonely....it is next to impossible to admit weakness and to present a picture of needing help. Existence can be so very painful. If one is bipolar oh boy

Default I can't tell her I had a stroke.

HI,
I can't tell her I had a stroke.
I might tell her I am too busy.
The venue has reserved seats and emailed us tickets
They filled up all the reservations.
If I am not going to go, I am supposed to cancel so someone else can have my seat.

I'm still considering someone one driving -- but can't think of anyone.

It will be a big hassle to park, figure out the building, walk across the whole campus to get there, talk to people (ugh), drive home in dark . . .

Mari

How about the friend who sometimes helps you do the unpacking.

I'm not sure but I know you talk about her. And I know that you
can do the being there fine. You are great with people. And I think
if you can find the right person to drive you. You'll be fine.

Red face ummm

is a cab out of the question? ... no explanations, no favors involved there. but maybe quite a fare.

are you ok with doing the event alone part, once there?

Default cab

Dear Waves,
Thanks.
The cab would indeed be quite a fare, as you say.
But it's a good idea so I have been researching it on line.
It is an option.

I'm ok by myself once there.

I need to call to find out about parking (not near the event if I remember right) and check again on the location.

I really hope I can go and come without talking to anyone.
I might need to say hello to my teacher. That would be normal, wouldn't it? . . . . to show my face. . . . but I am not up to encountering anyone.
But maybe she is not expecting to see me. Her emails have been about my attending . . . . not about having to talk to anyone.

I feel like if I get there, that counts. That counts a lot.
I'll email her after I get home and mention something specifically about the event so she knows I was there. -- Unless I am crazy misunderstanding what she wants from me.

This is silly. Now I am starting to get agitated about saying hello to my own teacher. I was in school for a long time. We know each other.
I'm freaking out about having to talk to her.

Maybe I'll just call her on the telephone.
How's that for an idea? . . . and tell her I won't be able to talk to her because I have to get back home right afterwards. But she'll know I'm making it up.

Maybe this depends on how many people are going -- I don't know the exact place. If the numbers of people are not huge it would be normal to say hello. If it is huge I can hang back with the crowd.

(I really don't know how I made it through grad school. I'm so full of nerves.) And I was sick back then. I had about 10+ years of a horrible case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that I sort of outgrew a few years ago. One time for a big presentation I could not move my joints to get out of bed. I couldn't move. It was scary. I crawled out of bed and found a pair of pants and a shirt and got in the car. I did well enough on the presentation.
I was younger then and pushed myself too hard perhaps.

Mari

I think its more that you are afraid of your speech problems. Or am I thinking of this wrong. If that is the case then maybe you could send your teacher a email, letting her know you are coming. And that you had the stroke is it. If that is the case then maybe you could email the situation,
and explain you can't talk to her. But will be there. I realize you don't
really want to make this known, but I think she would understand.

Red face

and there is no way hubby could take you?
I am sorry that you are feeling like you have to go...maybe I am not reading this right.
you don't have to go!
You could email them saying that you are having health issues and leave it at that.
it's tomorrow so I may be late in this conversation.
