Smile the sound of music

I sang in a production of The Sound of Music. I wasn't a main character or anything. I was a nun. A postulant to be quite precise. I had a walk-on scene where i had to bring something (the wedding rings?) on a satin cushion onto the stage, with another postulant, and walk off. haha.

i learned all the songs though. impossible not to really with all the practices. plus of course choral stuff, including some hefty pieces in Latin, because those were the nun parts.

i don't remember all the songs 100% now. i still remember the theme song.

it is funny to find this post here about The Sound of Music, because, thinking about this thread yesterday (you're not the only one who can't get it out of your head apparently, Mari ), i was thinking about the song My Favourite Things (Brit. spelling obligatory here!) ... and thinking about posting it... lol. i sang bits of it to myself on the bus... enough to realize i was starting to get the lyrics mixed up but the refrain at least i recall:

When the dog bites,
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favourite things
And then i don't feeeeeeeeeeeeel
Sooooo baaaaad.

(ironically this song is one of my favorite things and i couldn't remember it ) Another cool one was How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria.

But one i was thinking of on the bus... following from My Favourite Things, because i was thinking in terms of feeling better when not in good state, is actually from The King and I. It is not about sadness but fear:

Whenever I feel afraid,
I hold my head erect
And whistle a happy tune
So no-one will suspect
I'm afraid...

While shivering in my shoes,
i strike a careless pose
And whistle a happy tune
So no-one ever knows
I'm afraid!
Make believe you're brave
And the trick will take you far
You may be as brave
As you make believe you are

[repeat tune whistling]
You may be as braaaaaaaave
As you make belieeeeve you are!

Seeing Born Free in Kenya.... wowwww... that is something!!!

I love elephants.

Aww heck, i'm just a sucker for animals.

Isis That would be a wonderful place to be. I wish that there could be a place like that too. Having people all around the TV at night, and things like that would be wonderful. We would not be alone. BF

Heart someone has to do the cooking

last night my parents had rabbit.

i don't eat rabbit.

so i made an egg thingie - basically an omelette type thing, but where you mix the "filling" in with the egg, and then cook it in a pan without ever folding it, so it comes out in a round, lightly browned "quichey" thing - but without any bread.

mine had artichokes, a little ham, onions, and bit of little grated romano cheese to bind. it was the kind of dish for which the preparation for one person, or for 3, or for 6, takes about the same time - just a bigger pan!

sound good to anyone?

i made enough for my own dinner, plus lunch for mom and med today. i also made herbed potatoes for everyone.

i can also make vegetarian (including vegan) dishes.

and pasta dishes of all sorts. from plain ol' spaghetti with olive oil and garlic w/ or w/o chili, or fresh tomato dressing, ... to much more elaborate pasta and rice conconctions.

of course when i am depressed you will be lucky if i open a can of tuna for you. i personally am ok with finger food at such times, and will use the pre-washed hassle-free mixed salad packages.

hopefully when i am depressed someone else can cook or make the sandwiches.

wow i did not know you sang.

perhaps we could have musical evenings...

you would not have to sing alone - i would sing with you and play guitar where appropriate... and where not, Mari could play piano.

hmmmm... someone needs to bring a piano. or a keyboard.

Blush

I sing too.
I was in the choir at school and in my senior year I sang the solo bits of 'Once in Royal David's City'. It was the opening carol and a highly covetted solo. Whoever sang that went around flexing their vocal muscles for the rest of the year, and I can assure you I milked the opportunity. Shameful!

I kept up with it up till about '96 and then Lupus ot the better of my voice.
Daughter is studying vocals 'though.
She has a huge voice, and really belts it out.
In her opinion I can't tell one note from another.

Cool

But I digress.

We could have music Waves, maybe someone could play the guiter and some others arrange percussions on the kitchen tables and with pots and pans.

How about mugs of pea and ham soup?
I also wouldn't mind a large slice of blueberry cheese-cake.

I can't really sing anymore,
Hard for me to stay on key so you would not want me singing. I do sing kareoke sometimes when I have been drinking too much, am just awful!
I didn't know that mari played piano.
sounds quite nice, kind of like a commune ......community!
there are group homes where they live together and share responsibilities.
they are called RT residential treatment centers.
