Can't believe it reached 102 today! (don't know what the heat index was)
I feel so sorry for those living in texas....dallas had 40 days of 100 degree weather and now houston has had 100 temps for the past 16 days...i think.

This has been a crazy hot summer for alot of folks. I wonder if that means we should expect fires in the near future?????
We are having some much needed rain tonight....
Our neighbors tree lost a branch and took out part of our shed roof.
Jeff said he would go talk with her tomorrow.
This rotten tree is a plague now that hurricane season is upon us.

it's terribly hot here too. temps over 100 and humid. :( wunderground grossly underreports, i dunno. or have vantage points with iced wind or something. WE have thermometers inside and out tho.... :(

no rain, no sea, no pool, no puddles, not even a leaky yard sprinkler... garden hose... garden??? hah! what's that. AC? nope. fortunately we do have fans.

i don't know what to do with myself any more esp its hard to really cool off with the neck-shoulder-back-arm inflammation i've got going... constant (warm) temp seems to work best for pain.

meantime rest of body is SCREAMING to take a dive in that iced driveway with Elliot!!!

i couldn't even get a dip in the sea when i was on vacation. i didn't even get to touch it. which is like, one of my rituals. whenever i go to someplace near ocean... i have to touch the sea ... it's an identity thing i think...

Our few week long of heat wave was long over. the last few weeks it was even too cool for the pool. Getting ready to drain it. This week we had low humidity and took advantage of it to take dgs to the amusement park. Lots of walking, slow walking, but still a strain on the back. A birthday party for our furture sil dad, and tomorrow I have to get back to school started. Setting up a room for dd and I to have for her cyber schooling and my work.
I HAVE to get the new dryer hooked up tomorrow too.
The storm damage claims calmed down a bit, but now I had several RV fires an damage. Also a few slip and falls.
Hope everyone can be a cool as can be, and safe from any storms.
Di

Bizi make sure the neighbor is on notice about that tree...their insurance may be particular of the act of nature and BETTER know how bad that tree is and remove it before any more damage. Get an estimate for the damage and in writing give it to them or send reg. Not sure how you get along with them. Hope nothing in he shed gets damaged.

bizi 08-20-2011 10:45 AM

jeff went over to speak to her and she was so uninvolved/nonchalant ...she said let the insurance companies fight it out. She wasn't going to remove the tree. or pay for the damages to our shed...which is really not that damaged....but if we file it we would have to pay the deductible which is way more than the damages and cost to fix it. Jeff is going to call our insurance company to see if they can generate a letter telling her that it is her responsibility to fix the damages....
anyway....
supposed to be in the 100's today...
poor waves no air conditioning....why don't you guys have a window unit????what is the normal temperatures for the summer there?

Dear Di

you sound so busy... i hope you can find time to rest, though i'm glad the heat is over foryou.:hug::hug:

Dear Bizi

complicated condo rules and the way our exterior is makes it impossible to install a window unit. years ago, we bought a portable that runs exhaust out of a window, but found that the unit plus piping to the window get so hot they "outpower" the coolness generated - it's an anti-airconditioner! Plus, the outer shade cannot be drawn on that window when the exhaust pipe is in place, and with the sun beating right onto it, even more heat radiates into the house. :(

i hope your insurance company is helpful. i think they will be sensitive to the neighbor's attitude and potential lack of coverage for certain conditions eg act of nature, and want to prevent having to shell out for a claim on your part, should that thing come down. maybe take some pix of the tree (with auto-dating) and shed also, just to document an a priori state of things... so you have something to show in case there are later damages of ambiguous cause...

isn't there some sort of authority that says if A's tree is hanging on B's property you have a right to get it chopped back? there may be contingency too on it being endangering... screw the shed...what if you or jeff were walking by, and it fell right then, and tumbled off and damaged one of YOU?!!! :(:(

ask your insurance about these things, and ask what you can do to protect yourselves in the immediacy, as well as possible CYA actions against having to claim against someone else's negligence, and eat the deductible yourself.

(((hugs)))

Swamp cooler!

You need a swamp cooler, ~ waves ~ , seriously.
Portable units vent themselves. When I lived out west I just hitched it to my belt & I was good--make that grrr-ATE!--to go:D;).

p.s. How goes post-travel recovery?

.

*. *. *. a work still being worked on

waves 08-21-2011 06:35 AM

Haha... swamp-cooler???? i am not sure what that is CG... (much less if they have them here). effect sure sounds good though!!!

We are not "supposed" to have such high temps but we do, every year, for several weeks esp as you get near the city... cement and soot absorbs heat and reradiates it... we've dropped a few degrees now so this week might "only" be high 90's if we are lucky. but won't cool off more till mid sept or later.

------------------

i am SO NOT ready for work. not physically, not mentally. pain still there, not ready for work much less the noise or the chaos of the office. boss won't be there but piled my plate high and made sure to let me know there was "pressure" from above on these tasks... end of august cutoff and he will be back 29th... just in time to crack the whip.

i should be grateful i have a job, but i accepted this one without hardly thinking, or asking to do other interviews when i didn't like the sound of it to start with... i diddn't know what i was doing....

now i basically want to roll over and die. TMI sorry. and off-topic... :(

Hurricane Irene is heading toward parts of the Bahamas as a catagory 3.

We are going to get effects from the storm because is is spread out over a wide distance. I have not checked much more than that.

well the Bahamas is going to get fkd up pretty bad if it stays on forecasted track ...

Irene tracking map - Weather Underground

looks like the eye will pass just to the right or directly over eastern New Providence - where the capital is... v. densely populated and lots of wooden structures... i don't want to think about the damages especially in the poor areas. it is not often for there to be a direct hit like that. most often they veer above or below NP. if below, the storm gets disorganized by the mountainous areas in cuba and jamaica.

Hurricane Irene strengthened to a category two storm last night and was forecasted to hit the southeastern Bahamas as early as this afternoon and New Providence tomorrow night.

The hurricane could be the first in 11 years to directly hit New Providence.
...
Director of Meteorology Arthur Rolle predicted that Exuma and New Providence will be among the hardest hit islands as Irene moves through The Bahamas because of their proximity to the eye of the storm.
No matter where it veers this one looks like it's going to make a big mess.
:(:(:(
