Oh boy Donna, I hope that your sister and your mother feel better soon. Being depressed is so hard, maybe with spring they will both feel stronger. I think all this cold bleak weather is affecting people's moods. I am glad to hear about your husband being more active in daily life and that he's over blaming you for the trouble your son got into (whatever that may be it's NOT your fault) so keep us posted on how your mom and sister are doing okay Donna? And I hope you have a good trip. :)

Dear Donna

sending best wishes for your mom.

hopefully her depression is just be transitional, but it is certainly important to be vigilant. it sounds like you and your sister(s?) are doing a great job with that.

have you guys figured out what the falling is about? do you know whether it's skeletal/muscular weakness as opposed to having possible neurological origins? i think that is important to figure out.

anyway, sending all of your family good thoughts. thank goodness too that your husband has picked this time to turn into Mr. Family Guy so Derrick can count on him while you are away. ;)

Dear Donna,

Have you already had the mdocs check out each of her meds?
She might be getting side effects from one of the meds that effect her balance. The same with her depression.

She can get physical / occupational therapy for balance.
First the therapist will check her out / test her.

They have not checked her medications yet. I believe while she is in rehab, they will. She is trying to get into a specific one that her doctor goes too.

It is mainly a muscles being very weak thing. One is her knees give out on
her. Another is she has very bad feet.

She has arthritis very bad. Its kind of really bugging me because I seem
to be following in her foot steps for the arthritis and things.

The falling was already something that I had. But mine is better thanks to
physical therapy before.

(Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your listening.

My husband and I have another friend that had surgery yesterday.
She is really going to take a while to recover. I'm pretty sure that in
the end my husband will do some driving her around. Since I'm not going
to be available.

But she has been sick since December, and just had her adnoids out. And
her sinus's rearranged. Its also turned out she is allergic to just about everything outside. The allergist warned her no mowing of grass.

Rant

Okay it seems that a person can access you with out having you walk, move or do a thing. Thats what the person that came today did for my mother.
Per my mom and my sister. I am just as irritated as they are. Now it seems
that she can get everything she needs from outpatient services.

Oh and their van can pick her up, but they are not allowed to assist at all.
SO it means that anytime she is going in the van, someone or more like
3 probably will have to be here to help her get in the van.

Reason being, someone has to hold on to the walker, and then it would take
two to help her in the van. Unless they bring a wheel chair and the weather
holds. Then it might just take two.

I'm irritated as much because she will have to have someone here at all times
for a while. And its not like everyone doesn't have things to do. And I feel
bad I'm so far away. But will be here as much as I can.

She has friends too, that maybe could take times during the day.

oh no!

Donna,

I'm really sorry things got messed up somehow  for your mom's stay in rehab. it seems really crazy what you guys will have to go through...

with the help she needs and all the falling that is happening it seems much safer for her to be in a rehab place for a while.

i guess i thought the choice would be hers/yours, not theirs as to whether she could stay in the center or not. does it depend on the place? what about a different rehab center?

Dmom3005 03-07-2010 09:40 PM

I also wondered about a different rehab center. But so far my sister
that has been working through all this. Seems to have it worked
out so she stays in the home, and has home health care.

There will be someone twice a week for home health aide. They can even do laundry, cooking, and vacuuming as long as its just for her.
They will help her take a bath, I'm personally thinking this will be the thing
that will help get her to rehab. Because I don't see anyone getting her
in her shower. It needs to be redone.

I really see a problem after staying 3 nights. Last night we had a real hard
time getting her up and back to her seat. She needs a lift chair.

Which I feel bad, I bought one a few years ago for my oldest sons house.
Dale is hopefully going to look at it. And see whether he can get it in shape
for my mom. I hope this happens.

I got very little sleep, because bath room, is about every 2 hours. But when
she had so much trouble with her foot pain. That it was almost all the time.

oh donna, I am sorry that they discharged her too soon. Could you get her doctor to order more rehab? or a different place?

Dmom3005 03-08-2010 03:36 PM

Bizi
That is the problem, they never admitted her into the place.

We will see what happens this week.
