Hi,

You don't have to be there for the open casket -- it is only going to be opened because a few people see the need. It is not a requirement for everyone else.

Follow your own heart. Others will be following their hearts.

Maybe use the gathering to re-connect with your other relatives. You can help them and let them help you.

Heart

hi.

i know the feeling of wishing you had been there more. different circumstances for me with my uncle, but same result - now they're gone and there's nothing we can do. there is powerlessness and a feeling of guilt. the powerlessness is real. but try to ditch the guilt. it isn't your fault she died. and before that, you made choices, and the reasons for your choices were real enough and good enough at the time, even if now they don't seem good. we can't live in hindsight. (if only, sometimes... i know... sigh.)

what you can do now is honor her memory. and that doesn't have to entail an open casket viewing if you don't feel the need - some do and would rather see her that way, than not at all. but it is a very very deeply personal choice. don't be afraid to do what feels ok for you, and similarly don't be afraid NOT to do what does NOT feel ok.

as for the picture what about when you were little - might not there be a real one of you two together?

I am sorry...this is alot of gatherings...do you really have to go to all of them?
You are allowed to say I am not feeling well and leave.
You really have that option at any time.
((((HUGS))))

Collinsc

Do what you can. And remember that you are human. So was your aunt.

You can change somethings with other relatives now. And you can
honor your aunt in the best way for one or more of her closest relatives.
By being there for them.

I would do that.

I too am sorry for your loss.
