Angry I'm so MAD! Can't get pain med script filled!

I am so angry, I could breathe fire! Back in December, I had written to CVS from work, telling them about the tough time I always have filling my scripts for Kadian (30mg. bid). They actually CALLED ME UP THAT DAY, as well as e-mailing me, to tell me that from now on, my local CVS will be able to fill the scripts. IMAGING MY SURPRISE WHEN, LAST EVENING, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY CAN'T FILL MY SCRIPT BECAUSE THE PERSON THAT ORDERS 'THOSE MEDS' IS AWAY FOR TWO WEEKS! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO IN THE MEANTIME????

I have already fired off three letters to various folks at CVS, and I also wrote to the company that makes and distributes Kadian. I sure hope something works, because I only have THREE PILLS LEFT!!!

Has anyone else had these type of problems and, if so, what did you do?? I don't need to spend hours calling pharmacies trying to find one that will 'agree' to fill my script.

TALK ABOUT BEING TREATED LIKE A COMMON CRIMINAL....GR-R-R-R

Ok, I vented, now I feel a little better !!

Thumbs Down Hope it is OK now

Dear Jacquie,
I hope by now they figured out a way to fix the situation. I ran into this a few times, and ended up saying well, then I will be taking it to another pharmacy based on your inability to provide it. I got a note stating that, not that I ever needed it with the PCP, and filled it at Wegman's or Walgreens that always had brand and the amount we needed.

If not, make them give you what they ahve on hand and get in what they owe you. It should only take two to three days to get a delivery.

I wihs I could kick their butt for you! We take such steps to protect form this and Bamm they let it happen and have no resoulution. I always had trouble with Rite Aid not having the brand or amount we needed continually. That SUCKS.

Red face

This sounds so frustrating...I like Di's idea about a partial fill...

The CVS I went to specifically told me that 1) they had NONE on hand, despite promising me only 2 mos ago that they would have it available for me on a monthly basis, and 2) even if they had only a partial fill, I was told they COULD NOT GIVE ME A PARTIAL FILL. so much for that idea , tho I thought it made sense to me as well. I was on the phone with the PM office today, too (about a different matter) and they were shocked I was having that much getting the script filled! She suggested speaking to the Manager or something. I am counting on some type of communication fr CVS tomorrow...

I will let you know if I get lucky somewhere .

I hate to say it because they are jerking you around in general, but they are probably right about the partial fill. I'm not sure what schedule drug kadian is, but I used to work at a pharmacy and it was against the law to give partial fills of the stronger meds. No idea why, seems stupid to me, but..whatever.

I know its not fair, but I'd be calling around to other pharmacies to see who could fill my script. Then I'd let CVS know.

I hope you are able to get it ASAP.

MM's Mom - it's a narcootic, also known as MS Contin.

I started called priivate pharmacies (not the big chain-type stores) and I can drop it off locally and have it filled by Friday. Guess that's better than nuthin'!

Hi J - I am sorry you had to go through all that crap. I am happy you are getting your script.

Maybe time to change pharmacy's too.

My pain script, I have to go to my Dr's office and pick up the slip, they can't call it in, nor can they refill it. It's the law here.

So, I just call my Dr's office and they have it ready for me to pick up a few days in advance, then drop it off at Walgreens.

I am just glad you don't have to suffer in pain, I know the spiney pain all too well.

Hugs, Nikko

Dear Jacquie,
I hope you got the proper assistant by now.
It is amazing how hard people have to fight to get meds.

Dear Jacquie,

Most pharmacies do not keep high potency narcotics on hand unless they have a customer who places maintenance orders. I have had that problem with Oxycontin. Fortunately, there are a few super-drugstores, (e.g. 24 hr. / 7 day pharmacies), that usually have them on hand. If this happens to you again, try calling some of the big boys and see if they have them in stock. If not, try pharmacies located near hospitals.

Thanks for the ideas & suggestions! I had written to CVS last Monday, and finally got a letter of apologyon Thursday night, which I got Friday morning at my work e-mail. All of a sudden, the closest branch had 120 pills (!), yada, yada. I wrote back, thanking him for the info, and that I will be filling my scripts there each month, which is what I had told them the last go-around, which was only in December. At that time, I was promised my local banch would have it for me each month, AND THAT ONLY LASTED TWO MONTHS AND THEN, A SUDDEN SNAG, WHEN I WAS TOLD THE PERSON WHO ORDERS 'THOSE MEDS' WAS AWAY FOR TWO WEEKS. This had better be the last time I have to work so hard to get my meds! Now, at least, I have the name and phone number of this gentlemen who can help me, should there be another glitch. I have to add that I had finally found a small pharmacy who ordered my Kadian on Wednesday, and I picked them up on Friday afternoon.
