Smile Mine rescue in Chile

They brought up the first miner. I can't imagine being under the ground in a small area, over 2,000 feet down, for weeks. I can't immagine coming up in that small barrel either.

I'm glad they are being rescued sooner then they thought. I'd probably be a emotional wreck,or better then I was before. BF

Default good news

Dear Friend,
I'm happy to hear that they have started the rescue.

I heard that psychologists say that after any similar trauma

~70% of the will be fine after a little while and go back to normal
~15% will improve their lives after the event
~15% will struggle afterward.

I wonder why some can manage the same conditions when others cannot. Maybe it has to do with what was going on in their lives before. Maybe genetics is at work as well.

I think your right. Genetics, and heredity have alot to do with it.

I don't like to go up,or down in elivators. There was a small one at a job that I had to use to go up 2,or 3 floors. I got better with time, and doing what I fear'd. I couldn't immagine going up in a three barrel sized lift, going up to over 2,000 feet.

More power to them. It's nice seeing them smiling, and hugging. BF

Dear Friend,

I hope that you did not watch the miners.

I watched miners 26 and 27 before I left work. It was emotional.
I'm going to make sure that I move away from this story now.

Mari Thank you. I saw the first two rescued, and then went to bed earlier then usual, because I had a appointment this morning with a social security worker.

I'm sorry that what you saw was troubling. Yes please move away from the story. I don't want you to be upset by any of this. BF

((( Steve and Mari )))

thank goodness they got those folks out. i am happy and relieved for the miners. when the accident happened i went through a lot of mental gymnastics about how they would handle bodily functions. everyone was talking about food and water and meds. and i was like, ok, those are their "input needs" but.... what goes in must come out......???????? i didn't look for an answer to that, and i don't think i want one (i might not like it.)

i have not seen footage of the rescue. i might like to see interviews later when they have had a chance to rest.

i find that emotional events - even "positively-charged" ones in in the real world can jangle me up into a right mess.

keep informed at a safe emotional distance. (to me, 'safe' sometimes involves remaining uninformed. i learn a lot of stuff from hearsay... others talking about news. just snippets. no pictures, etc.) and from people starting threads like this here. Thanks, Steve!

Hi,

My sis and I watched the last miner come out (He was the foreman of the group). The cameras and mics stayed on him because he talked for about 20 mins with mine officials and the Chilean president before moving off stage.

My sis translated some of the Spanish for me better than CNN did.

I was intrigued in early September when US consultants put the miners on a sleep schedule:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-11150585
Quote:
The Nasa team, made up of a doctor, a nutritionist, an engineer and a psychologist, has considerable experience of space missions and is used to helping astronauts cope with extreme conditions and months of solitude.

Mr Duncan, who is leading the Nasa team in Chile, said his group had been asked to provide help in nutrition and behavioural health.

Speaking at a news conference in Santiago before travelling to the mine, he said his team had seen two videos the miners made of themselves, and that a priority was increasing the miners' caloric intake, getting them on a regular sleep schedule and ensuring they remain optimistic.

I wish I had not watched at all.
Witnessing such an emotional has added to some of my normal turmoil levels.

maybe you can reframe what you have witnessed,
look at all of the happy families....this is a wonderful time for them.
and let it go at that.

Dear Bizi,
I do see it as happy. Very happy.
But was too much emotion.

I get through my days and minutes flat most of the time.
Any movement of emotions up or down causes chaos.
