I am taking Zyprexa, Lithium and now Klonopin. Anyone have experience with Klonopin? It's calmed my nerves but drains my energy,

i take it at night to help me sleep...works for me.

I take 5 mg. twice a day and I'm falling asleep when I don't want to. Pam

Dear Pam,
The doc needs to know that is a concern. He / she can probably make some adjustments.
Tell the pdoc about falling asleep.

Maybe you could take more of it in the afternoon and less of it in the morning. The pdoc can come up with a better plan about time.

i am concerned.

unless there has been a decimal point typo ... 5 mg Klonopin bid, i.e. 10mg a day is indeed a high dose.

i take a benzo which is roughly half as potent and longer acting than Klonopin. for my benzo, 8mg a day is considered a ceiling dose. 10mg Klonopin would be MORE THAN TWICE that!!! :

and with Lithium AND Zyprexa as WELL? (BOTH sedating)

is there is any chance of typo/error? pls could you double check your med labels... perhaps it is 0.5mg Klonopin, twice a day? now if that were the case...

along with the other meds, 0.5 mg Klonopin twice a day could still be too sedating for you, with the Li and Zyprexa. In general, response is very individual and is also largely dependent on state. i.e., during an acute anxiety attack you might require, and easily tolerate, an amount that would otherwise cause heavy sedation, whereas for regular use a much smaller dosage would be appropriate. dosage also depends on how your anxiety manifests. Klonopin is particularly indicated where anxiety manifests in physical agitation.

please clarify this with us. several of us are concerned here regarding these 10mg of Klonopin () per day???

certainly the Zyprexa is sedating but it is another kettle of fish... serves other purposes. ditto the Lithium.

Hello,

One time my old pdoc did indeed get the decimal point wrong. The pharmacist caught it, got excited about the high dose I was on, and called the pdoc for the correction before filling the script.
This was back in the late 80s / early 90s when I went to a family run pharmacy that did not use computers.
It can happen.
