I just sent my Dept. of Rehab. worker an email qustioning his last couple of emails where is is questioning my state of mind. It all started out with me complaining about the teacher I had at Goodwill last year and now all of a sudden I'm under scrutiny. He wants to talk with my therapists. I am not going to sign any release papers for him to talk with them unless I am present. I mean that is what he wanted for me to do with the teacher last year, talk about what problems I had with her in her present. I had a good day at school last Wednesday until my state of mind was brought up by my Rehab. counselor. I know the others picked on me but I was happy I had done well on my typing test and that I had learned mail merge. Then my state of mind to be able to concentrate was questioned by the Rehab. counselor making me think of the bad and not the good. I did not mention to him the bad things that went on in class last Wednesday. I am wondering where he is coming from and I asked him so in the email to him

I wouldn't sign anything either. See what his reply is in the emails.

I would call Nami head quaters asn ask to speak to someone that could advise you.
www.nami.org BF, would they ask or question a state of mind of a person filing similar complaints if they were physicallly disabled as in a wheel chair instead of bipolar. I would tell them I resent being treated without dignity of your complaints and make it seem like it is you, not their situation. You are doing so well with the schooling information, there is certainly no mental problem just stress from them...I would sign nothing. It is irrelavant. Di

Hi all,
Di, you made a good point. If I had just a physical disability and not a bi-polar one, would they question my state of mind. I hardly think so. My rehab. counselor emailed me back and said he just assumed I could not handle school in light of the problems I had complained about with the old teacher. He is saying now he doesn't have a problem with me going to school after me telling him how well my last day in class went inspite of being picked on. Of course he said nothing at all about the mis treatment I am getting in class as if it's no big deal. befuddled2 |

Maybe in his their thinking , not that it is correct, we meet all kind of biased people in live and how we manage ourself in those situation matters. He could be happy that although they were jerks, you did not let it bother you, being more focused on your education.
I think any other school, any other staff and students, then this one, you would be exceptional in. This was just not a good fit and you are coming through now, more into how great you are doing and their treatment is secondary. You can't change peoples thoughts and poinions, you can't bend their arm backward until they say uncle, BUT you did allow the caseworker to see that this program is not a good fit for all, and perhaps in the fututre they may not see more students recommened there. Your doing great with the program BF, and that is the biggest plus. You would like to be at least acknowledged and accepted, but, in the end, if they are poor specismens theirself, not good dough to mold them into kind and considerate prople. When you get out of the program and excell with the highest grdaes, they will eat their own words. I am so proud tht you are doing well and like the program informatio. This is so valuabe for later, and for you self esteem now. Love ya gal, Di

Thank you Di, I emailed my Rehab. counselor back and told him a lot can be misunderstood over the Internet when corresponding and asked to meet with him in person for some issues. Right now though I cannot think of what those other issues are other than the fact that I have other things that need my attention away from class beside appointments. I also want to go on to further my education after Goodwill and he is giving me the impression no.

I like the idea of meeting in person. I think you will do better if you can read his body language and look in his eyes.
Even if he sounds like no to more school, don't let that stop you. There has to be other programs out there that will be better for you and will help you get the school you want. |
