Heart

i just want to say how much i have enjoyed reading everyone's replies.

i'd like to reply more to specific things, but will have to put it off... maybe tomorrow?

after 10.5 hours at work today, i can't cope with much but just reading posts a bit.

thank you all though, for the wonderful contributions.

~ waves ~ who just ate a spinach sandwich (leftover spinach, wheat bread, salt - added liberally by me , garlic powder... yeah... processed LOL, and also added by me!)

p.s. Steve i wish one of us could come cook for you some time. i know what you mean.... i've lived alone. moods can make it difficult to do the whole cook/bulk/freeze thing. i've done the pre-cut salads and budget gourmet (i love their swedish meatballs ). at least you you sound like you eat a bit of everything.

Default Outside Influences

Hi,
Here is Slate magazine talking about sensible eating, dealing with supermarkets, and so on:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/cle...nfluences.aspx

The Fourth Obstacle to Sensible Eating: Outside Influences

Quote:
Manufacturers also label foods in tricky ways. They make portion sizes unrealistically small so calorie and nutrient counts appear sufficiently low. A pint of ice cream is supposed to contain four servings of half a cup each. I don't remember the last time I ate just a half-cup of ice cream—probably because there never was one.

Quote:
The aisles are configured as a maze to keep you in the market as long as possible, to maximize shelf space, and to run you past as many products as possible. Supermarkets contain tens of thousands of products. The more variety, the more we see.

Quote:
Frequently purchased staples, like milk, are shelved at the back of the store, so even if you're running in for just a few items, you'll have to walk past hundreds or thousands of other products. Instead of making shopping easy, markets make it time-consuming and tempting.

M.

Oh yes....I agree...making a roast is wonderful! That's good for a few days. In a pinch, I'll buy roast beef from the store, although that surely is not as good as making it yourself...probably has nitrates or something.

Additionally, I REALLY like hardboiled eggs. This is an economical , easy + convenient way to get some good protein in....low calorie too. Just can't be beat IMHO.

Love spinach...I put it in many things!!! I eat a lot of it!!!!

Default yum

Hi waves, sounds yummy, just how many of us do you want over for the next dinner?? Yep it sounds good and I eat most of what I want now too. I conquered the battle of the chubs all my life. Now at 130 I am happy and confused with myself. Why didn't I do this before? Why did it take a real health scare to get me to do the right things with food? I knew about it before, and I just kept right on eating, gaining each year. Now I got it, and I can eat almost anything I want in moderation. I so hope each and every one that struggles with weight could do as I did and find what it is that works. I am chewing on mango dried fruit right now. Have a good day wavesginnie
